يَنْتَهِي مَوْسِم ٱلْحَجّ مِن كُلّ عَام بِتَكْبِيرَاتِهِ وَتَهْلِيل حُجَّاجِه وَرَائِحَةُ حَقَائِبِهِم ٱلْمُعَبَّأَة بِبَخُور ٱلْهَدَايَا وَ«سُبَح» ٱلذِّكْرَيَات ٱلْمُقَدَّسَة، لِيَبْدَأ مَوْسِم ٱلزَّوَاج ٱلْبَشَرِيّ مُنْذُ نِهَايَةِ ٱلْحَجّ اَلَّذِي يُحَرَّمُ فِيه عَقْد ٱلزَّوَاج غَيْرَ أَنَّهُ ٱلْمَكَان ٱلْأَكْثَر مُلاءَمَة لِٱخْتِيَار شَرِيكَةِ ٱلْعُمْر حَسَبَ مُوَاصَفَاتٍ إِسْلامِيَّةٍ يَبْحَثُ عَنهَا ٱلشَّابّ وَٱلْفَتَاة وَوَلِيّ ٱلْأَمْر. وَفِي ٱلذَّاكِرَة ٱلْمَحْكِيَّة لَدَى كَثِيرٌ مِن ٱلسُّعُودِيِّين تَبْرُزُ عَشَرَات ٱلْقِصَص اَلْمُرْتَبِطَة بِمَوْسِم ٱلْحَجّ وَٱخْتِيَار ٱلزَّوْجَات وَٱلْأَزْوَاج فِي ذٰلِكَ ٱلْمَوْسِم اَلَّذِي يُحَقِّقُ مَنَافِع كَثِيرَةً لِلنَّاس أَوْرَدَهَا اَلله فِي ذِكْرِهِ لِلْحَجّ، خَاصَّةً أَنَّ طَبِيعَةَ ٱلْمُجْتَمَع ٱلْمُحَافِظَة تُعْطِي نَوْعًا مِن ٱلْمُرُونَةِ ٱلشَّرْعِيَّة فِي مَوْسِم ٱلْحَجّ لِأَنْ تَكْشِف ٱلْمَرْأَةُ عَن وَجْهِهَا وَهِيَ فِي ٱلْإِحْرَام، كَمَا أَنَّ طَبِيعَةَ ٱلْمُعَامَلات ٱلْبَشَرِيَّة تَكُونُ أَكْثَر قُرْبًا نَتِيجَةً لِتَفْضِيل كَثِير مِن ٱلْأُسَر مَبْدَأ ٱلْمَجْمُوعَات ٱلْعَائِلِيَّة فِي ٱلذَّهَاب لِلْحَجّ.
The Hajj season of every year ends with its exclamations of allāhu akbar and its pilgrims saying lā ilāha illā llāh and the smell of their suitcases filled with the perfume [lit. incense] of gifts and the beads of holy memories Then begins the season of human marriage from the end of the Hajj in which it is forbidden to get married even though it is the most suitable place for choosing a life partner according to the Islamic specifications [which] the young man and young woman and guardian are looking for. And in the spoken memory of many Saudis there emerge dozens [lit. tens] of stories connected with the Hajj season and the choosing of wives and husbands in that season which gives [lit. realises] many benefits to people which God set out in his mentioning of the Hajj especially that the conservative nature of society grants a kind of flexibility in Sharia Law in the Hajj season so that the woman reveals her face when she is in iḥrām [the state of sacredness] just as the nature of human dealings is closer as a result of many families preferring the principle of family groups when going on the Hajj.
جَاءَت إِلَى عِيَادَتِي ٱلنَّفْسِيَّة قَبْلَ أَيَّام طَالِبَةٌ فِي ٱلْجَامِعَةِ ٱلْأَمِيرِكِيَّة فِي ٱلْقَاهِرَة مِن طَبَقَةٍ عُلْيَا، فِي ٱلْعِشْرِين مِن عُمْرِهَا، تَرْتَدِي ٱلْحِجَاب ٱلْأَنِيق، وَوَجْهُهَا شَاحِب، غَسَلَتْهُ مِن ٱلْمَسَاحِيق، تُعَانِي ٱلْاِكْتِئَاب وَٱلرَّغْبَة فِي ٱلْاِنْتِحَار. لَقَد حَمَلَت مِن اِبْن عَمِّهَا (فِي بَيْتِهَا أَثْنَاءَ غِيَاب أَفْرَاد أُسْرَتِهَا فِي ٱلنَّادِي). قَالَت لِي: «تَوَقَّعتُ أَنْ أَنْزِف فِي عَمَلِيَةِ ٱلْإِجْهَاض فَتُعَانِي أُسْرَتِي ٱلْفَضِيحَة بَعْد مَوْتِي. لَمْ يَكُن أَمَامِي حَلّ (أَنَا وَٱبْن عَمِّي) إِلَّا ٱلتَّخَفِّي أَيَّام ٱلْوِلادَة، ثُمَّ لَفّ ٱلطِّفْلَة ٱلْمَوْلُودَة فِي بَطَّانِيَةِ صُوف وَتَرْكَهَا فِي ظُلْمَةِ ٱللَّيْل فِي حَيّ ٱلسَّيِّدَة زَيْنَب فِي جِوَار ٱلْجَامِع». تَبْكِي ٱلْفَتَاة ٱلطَّالِبَة وَعَيْنَاهَا شَارِدَتَان فِي ٱلْخَوَاء، وَتَقُول: شُفتُ عَيْنَيْهَا وَأَنَا أَلُفُّهَا بِٱلْبَطَّانِيَة، بِنْتِي ٱلْمَوْلُودَة، وَأَنَا أَتْرُكُهَا عَلَى أَرْض ٱلشَّارِع، فِي ٱلْهَوَاء وَٱلْبَرْد.
A few days ago a [female] student at the American University in Cairo from the upper class twenty years of age came to my psychological clinic. She was wearing a smart ḥijāb [headscarf] and her face was pale she had cleaned it of make-up [lit. powders]. She was suffering from depression and a desire to commit suicide. She had become pregnant by her cousin (in her house during the absence of her family members at the club). She said to me: I expected to bleed to death [lit. bleed profusely] in the abortion operation and so my family would endure the scandal after my death. There was no solution for me (me and my cousin) except to go into hiding around the time [lit. days] of the birth then to wrap the newborn [female] child in a woollen blanket and leave her in the darkness of the night in the district of Sayyida Zeinab [lit. Lady Zeinab] in the vicinity of the mosque. The girl the student cries. Her eyes staring blankly [lit. wandering in emptiness] and she says: I saw her eyes as I was wrapping her in the blanket my newborn daughter while I was leaving her on the ground of the street in the open air and the cold.
يَتَّكِئُ ٱلْعَسْكَرِيّ عَلَى سُور جِسْر فُؤَاد شِهَاب اَلْمُطِلّ عَلَى وَسَطَ بَيْرُوت، مُسْنِدًا فُوَّهَةَ بُنْدُقِيَّتِه إِلَى ٱلرَّصِيف، وَيَنْظُرُ إِلَى أَسْفَل. إِلَى جَانِبِهِ يُرَاقِبُ عَسْكَرِيٌّ آخَر اَلسَّيَّارَات ٱلْمَارَّة. لا شَيْء عَلَى وَجْهَي ٱلْعَسْكَرِيَّيْن يَشِي بِأَنَّ مَا يَفْعَلَانِهُ يَبْعَثُ عَلَى ٱلتَّسْلِيَة. مِن ٱلسُّور ذَاتُه تَتَدَلَّى صُوَرٌ عِمْلاقَة لِلْعِمَاد مِيشَال عَوْن وَٱلسَّيِّد حَسَن نَصْر ٱلله وَمَعْرُوف سَعْد، عَلَى سَاحَةِ وَسَط بَيْرُوت. تَرْسُمُ ٱلسَّاحَة اَلَّتِي عَاشَت أَمْس، مُنَاسَبَةَ مُرُور أَرْبَعِين يَوْمًا عَلَى ٱعْتِصَام ٱلْمُعَارَضَةِ ٱللُّبْنَانِيَّةِ ٱلْمَفْتُوح، صُورَةٌ جَامِدَة تُثِيرُ ٱلْمَلَل أَكْثَر مِن أَيّ يَوْمٍ سَابِق. خَلْف أَوَّل حَاجِزٍ حَدِيد يَقِفُ عُنْصُرٌ مِن اِنْضِبَاط «حِزْب ٱلله». عَلَى ٱلْعَمُود ٱلْإِسْمَنْتِيّ أَمَامَه، شُطِبَت عِبَارَاتٌ تُهَاجِمُ سُورِيَّة أَيَّام ثَوْرَةِ ٱلْأَرْز، وَحَلَّت مَحَلَّهَا: عِبَارَة «لَبَّيكَ يَا نَصْر ٱلله». قَبْل ٱلْحَاجِز، تَدِبُّ ٱلْحَيَاة فِي عَرَبَات ٱلْبَائِعِين وَأَكْشَاكِهِم.
The soldier rests against the railing of the Fuad Chehab bridge which overlooks central Beirut leaning the muzzle of his rifle towards the pavement and looking down. To his side another soldier watches the passing cars. Nothing on the faces of the two soldiers says [lit. betrays] that what they are doing is any fun [lit. evokes entertainment]. From the same railing huge pictures of General Michel Aoun and Sayyid Hassan Nasrallah and Maarouf Saad hang down onto the square of central Beirut. The square which yesterday marked [lit. lived] the occasion of the passing of forty days of the open-ended sit-in of the Lebanese Opposition paints a lifeless picture which causes boredom more than on any previous day. Behind the first iron barrier stands an element of Hizbullahs marshalling force. On the cement column in front of him phrases attacking Syria during the days of the Cedar Revolution have been crossed out. Taking their place is the phrase: At your command O Nasrallah. In front of the barrier life moves on in the carts of the vendors and their kiosks.
اَلْإِسْلام يَأْمُرُ بِٱلْقُوَّةِ ٱلْعَادِلَة لا ٱلْبَاغِيَّةِ ٱلظَّالِمَة، يَقُولُ سُبْحَانُه «وَأَعِدُّوا لَهُم مَا ٱسْتَطَعْتُم مِن قُوَّة» وَنَهَى عَن ٱلْاِعْتِدَاء بِٱلْقُوَّةِ وَٱلظُّلْم، فَقَال «وَلا تَعْتَدُوا إِنَّهُ لا يُحِبُّ ٱلْمُعْتَدِين» وَأَيّ حَقٍّ فِي ٱلْأَرْض لا تَحْمِيهِ قُوَّة إِنَّمَا هُوَ نَهْبٌ مُشَاع.. يَقُولُ أَبُو ٱلطَّيِّب: لا يَسْلَمُ ٱلشَّرَف ٱلرَّفِيع مِن ٱلْأَذَىـ حَتَّى يُرَاقَ عَلَى جَوَانِبِهِ ٱلدَّمُ وَقَد قَامَت دَوْلَةُ ٱلْإِسْلام اَلْأُولَى بِٱلْقُوَّة ٱلْعَادِلَة، فَبَسَطَت ٱلْأَمْن وَٱلسَّلام وَنَشَرَت ٱلرَّحْمَةُ وَٱلْعَدْل وَأَنْهَت كِيَانَات ٱلظُّلْم وَٱلْاِسْتِبْدَاد، وَفِي تَارِيخِنَا ٱلْمُعَاصِر قَامَ ٱلْمَلِك عَبْدُ ٱلعَزِيز آل سُعُود بِمَشْرُوع ٱلْوَحْدَةِ وَٱلتَّوْحِيد، وَكُنَّا قَبْلَ ٱلْوَحْدَة خَمْس دُوَلٍ مُتَنَاحِرَة مُتَقَاتِلَة وَقَبَائِل مُتَصَارِعَة مُتَشَاكِسَة، فَأَنْهَى بِٱلْقُوَّةِ ٱلْعَادِلَة اَلسَّفْك وَٱلسَّلْب وَٱلنَّهْب، وَلَوْ لَمْ يَقُم بِٱلْقُوَّة لَمَا تَمَّت ٱلْوَحْدَةُ أَبَدًا.
Islam orders just force not the committing of unjust outrages God [lit: approx. his majesty] says: And prepare against them what force you can. He forbade aggression with force and injustice as he said: Begin not hostilities. Lo! He [God] loveth not aggressors. Any rightful possession on earth which force does not protect is nothing but the plunder for all. Abu ~T-Tayyib [al-Mutanabbi died 965 AD] says Noble honour is not safe from harm till blood is shed on its sides. The first state of Islam was built with just force. Security and peace therefore spread. Compassion and justice also spread. And it put an end to the entities of injustice and despotism. In our contemporary history King Abdu ~l-Aziz aal Saud [died 1953 AD] carried out the project of unity and unification. We were before the union five states at each others throats and fighting each other and tribes wrestling each other and quarrelling with each other. But then with just force he ended the bloodshed and the looting and the plundering. And if he had not exercised force then the union would never have happened.
مُنْذُ أَنْ أُعْلِنَ عَن ٱلتَّوَجُّه لِتَعْيِين وَزِيرٍ عَرَبِيّ مِن فِلَسْطِينِيِّي اَلثَّمَانٍ وَأَرْبَعِين وَزِيرًا فِي ٱلْحُكُومَةِ ٱلْإِسْرَائِيلِيَّة، وَٱلْحَلْبَةُ ٱلسِّيَاسِيَّة فِي ٱلدَّوْلَةِ ٱلْعِبْرِيَّة تَغْلِي كَٱلْمِرْجَل. أُنَاسٌ فِي ٱلْيَمِين وَفِي ٱلْيَسَار يُعَارِضُون وَآخَرُون، أَيْضًا فِي ٱلْيَمِين وَفِي ٱلْيَسَار، يُرَحِّبُون. أَصْوَاتٌ فِي ٱلْيَمِين ٱلْمُتَطَرِّف تُعْلِن وَفَاة ٱلصَّهْيُونِيَّة بِضَرْبَةِ «سَاطُور» قَاتِلَة. رَئِيس ٱلْحُكُومَة، إِيْهُود أُولْمَرْت، يَتَلَعْثَمُ، تَارَة يَعْتَرِض ثُمَّ يُرَحِّب ثُمَّ يُؤَجِّل ٱلْبَتّ فِي ٱلْمَوْضُوع. حِزْب ٱلْعَمَل، صَاحِب ٱلْاِقْتِرَاح، يَتَحَوَّلُ إِلَى سَاحَةِ حَرْب بَيْنَ ٱلْمُؤَيِّدِين وَٱلْمُعَارِضِين. وَحَتَّى ٱلْمُوَاطِنُون ٱلْعَرَب فِي إِسْرَائِيل، اَلْمَفْرُوض أَنَّهُم أَوَّل ٱلْمُسْتَفِيدِين، هُم أَيْضًا مُحْتَارُون وَمُنْقَسِمُون مَا بَيْنَ مُؤَيِّدٍ وَمُعَارِض.
Ever since it was announced about the move towards the appointing of an Arab minister from the Palestinians of 48 [=1948 i.e. Arab Israelis] as a minister in the Israeli government the political arena in the Hebrew state has been boiling like a cauldron. People on the right and on the left oppose [it] and others also on the right and on the left welcome [it]. Voices on the extreme right declare the death of Zionism from a fatal cleaver blow. The Prime Minister Ehud Olmert stutters at times he opposes [it] and then he welcomes [it] and then he postpones a final decision on the subject. The Labor Party whose suggestion it was [lit. owner of the suggestion] has been transformed into a battlefield between supporters and opponents and even the Arab citizens in Israel supposedly the first beneficiaries are also confused and divided between supporter and opponent.
وَاحِدَةً مِن ٱلْقَضَايَا ٱلْمُتَفَاقِمَة اَلَّتِي يُعَانِي مِنهَا ٱلْمُجْتَمَع ٱلسُّعُودِيّ مُشْكِلَةُ ٱلْعَمَالَةِ ٱلْمَنْزِلِيَّة، تَبْدَأُ مِن صُعُوبَةِ ٱلْحُصُول عَلَى ٱلتَّأْشِيرَة، وَلا تَنْتَهِي بِهُرُوب ٱلْعَمَالَةِ مِن خَادِمَاتٍ وَسَائِقِين بَعْدَ أَنْ يَكُونَ ٱلْفَرْد قَد خَسِرَ مِن ٱلْمَال وَٱلْجُهْد وَٱلْوَقْت اَلشَّيْء اَلْكَثِير، اَلْخَادِمَات يَهْرُبنَ مِن مَنَازِل مَخْدُومِين ثُمَّ يَذْهَبنَ لِلْعَمَل فِي مَنَازِل أُخْرَى، بِتَوَاطُؤٍ أَوْ إِغْرَاءَاتٍ يَطُولُ شَرْحُهَا، حَتَّى أَصْبَحَت هُنَاك عِصَابَات تُدِير هٰذِهِ ٱلتِّجَارَة، وَلا يُعْلَنُ إِحْصَاء عَن عَدَد ٱلْهَارِبِينَ وَٱلْهَارِبَات. وَلَوْ أَنَّ مَرْكَزًا عَالَمِيًّا لِلْبُحُوث فِي «ٱلْوَاق ٱلْوَاق» مَثَلًا أَعْلَنَ أَنَّ ٱلسُّعُودِيَّة تَحْتَلّ ٱلْمَرْتَبَةَ ٱلْأُولَى فِي هُرُوب ٱلْعَمَالَة، وَٱلْمَرْتَبَةَ ٱلْأُولَى فِي تَشْغِيل عَمَالَةٍ غَيْر شَرْعِيَّة، لَظَهَرَ ٱلْوُزَرَاء وَٱلْمَسْؤُولُون وَأَصْدَرُوا تَصْرِيحَات ٱلنَّفْي. وَبَيَانَات ٱلنَّفْي شَكْلٌ مِن أَشْكَال ٱلْاِهْتِمَام، وَهُوَ مَا لا نَجِدُهُ عَلَى ضَعْفِهِ فِي قَضِيَةِ هُرُوب ٱلْعَمَالَة، وَلا يَظْهَر أَنَّ هُنَاكَ مَسْؤُولًا يَبْحَثُ عَن حُلُول.
One of the critical issues which Saudi society is suffering from is the problem of the household workforce. It starts with the difficulty of obtaining a visa and does not end [i.e. it continues] with the running away of the workers from among maids and drivers after one has lost much in terms of money and effort and time. The maids run away from the houses of employers [lit. served people] then go to work in other houses with collusion or temptations [too] long to explain. There are now even gangs which run this trade. No statistic has been made public about the number of [male] runaways and [female] runaways. If a global research centre in Waq al-Waq [fabled distant islands] for example announced that Saudi occupies first place [lit. rank] in the running away of the workforce and first place in employing illegal workers then ministers and officials would appear and they would issue statements of denial. Declarations of denial are a way of showing interest. And this is what we dont find even though it is a small thing [lit. on its weakness] in the matter of the running away of the workforce. And it does not seem that there is anyone in charge looking for solutions.
فَازَ ٱلْمُنْتَخَب ٱلسُّعُودِيّ عَلَى شَقِيقِهِ ٱلْعِرَاقِيّ بِجَدَارَة وَتَأَهَّلَ، مُتَصَدِّرًا مَجْمُوعَتَهُ لِلدَّوْر نِصْف ٱلنِّهَائِي، وَضَرَبَ أَكْثَر مِن عُصْفُورٍ بِحَجَر... وَرَدَّ عَلَى ٱلْمُشَكِّكِين وَأَصْحَاب ٱلنُّفُوس ٱلضَّعِيفَة. فَقَد أَكَّدَ ٱلْأَخْضَر قُوَّتَهُ وَأَزَاحَ ٱلْمُرَشَّح ٱلْأَقْوَى عَن ٱلتَّأَهُّل إِلَى ٱلدَّوْر ٱلثَّانِي وَأَكَّدَ لاعِبُوه عَزْمَهُم ٱلْحَثِيث لِٱسْتِعَادَةِ ٱللَّقَب ٱلْمُحَبَّب إِلَى قُلُوب جَمِيع ٱلْجَمَاهِير ٱلْخَلِيجِيَّة، وَأَثْبَتَ ٱللّاعِبُون ٱلشُّبَّان جَدَارَتَهُم وَنُجُومِيَّتَهُم وَأَنَّ ٱلْمُسْتَقْبَل أَيْضًا أَخْضَر بِإِذْن ٱلله. وَأَسْكَتَ ٱلسُّعُودِيُّون أَفْوَاه ٱلْقِلَّة اَلَّتِي تُحَاوِل زَرْع ٱلْفِتَن وَإِثَارَةَ ٱلْمُشْكِلات وَٱلَّذِينَ حَاوَلُوا تَمْرِير نَظَرِيَّةَ ٱلْمُؤَامَرَة بِٱلْاِتِّفَاق عَلَى ٱلتَّعَادُل وَهُوَ اَلَّذِي يَضْمَن لِلْمُنْتَخَبَيْن ٱلسُّعُودِيّ وَٱلْعِرَاقِيّ اَلتَّأَهُّل وَيُنْهِي حُظُوظ اَلْبَحْرَيْن وَقَطَر. فَ «ٱلْأَخْضَر» كَانَ مِن ٱلْوَاضِح مِن ٱلْبِدَايَة أَنَّهُ يَبْحَث عَن ٱلْاِنْتِصَار وَٱلْهَيْمَنَةِ ٱلْكُرَوِيَّة عَلَى ٱللِّقَاء، وَكَمَا قَالَ ٱلْأَمِير سُلْطَان قَبْلَ ٱللِّقَاء بِثِقَةِ ٱلْمَسْؤُول: «مَنْ يُرِيد أَنْ يَشْبَع فَلْيَأْكُل بِيَدَيه، وَإِنَّنَا سَنَلْعَب لِلْفَوْز وَٱلصَّدَارَة».
The Saudi team deservedly triumphed over its Iraqi brother and qualified (heading its group) for the semi-final round. And it killed [lit. hit] more than one bird with one stone... It answered the doubters and people with [lit. owners of] sick [lit. weak] minds. For The Green [the Saudi teams nickname] confirmed its strength and prevented [lit. pulled back] the strongest candidate from qualifying for the second round. Its players also confirmed their speedy determination to reclaim the title [which is] dear to the hearts of all the Gulf public. The young players proved their deservedness and their star quality and that the future is also green [English equiv. = rosy] God willing. The Saudis silenced the mouths of the few who try to sow discord and stir up problems and who tried to pass around a conspiracy theory concerning an agreement on drawing something which would guarantee qualification for the Saudi and Iraqi teams and put an end to the chances [lit. fortunes] of Bahrain and Qatar. For The Green it was clear from the beginning that it was looking for victory and ball supremacy at the meeting. Just as Prince Sultan said before the meeting with the confidence of someone in charge: Whoever wants to eat his fill let him eat with both hands. [i.e. lets give 100%] We will play for victory and first place [in the group].
تَقُولُ فَاطِمَة حَمِيد (عَشَر سَنَوَات): «مُنْذُ أَنْ كُنتُ فِي ٱلْمَهْد كَانَت تُغَنِّي لِي أُمِّي.. هَسَّـه يَجِي بَابَا ٱلْبَطَل مُتَخَيِّل ٱلدَّبَّابَة. كُنتُ أَتَصَوَّر أَنَّ ٱلدَّبَّابَة غِذَاء.. لٰكِنَّهُ لَمْ يَأْتِ.. وَبَعْدَ أَنْ كَبُرتُ قَلِيلًا عَرَفتُ أَنَّ ٱلدَّبَّابَةَ حَدِيد وَأُمِّي أَرْمَلَةٌ وَأَنَا أَبْحَث فِي ٱلْمَزَابِل...». تَلْتَقِطُ فَاطِمَة، كَمَا تَقُول لِ «اَلشَّرْق ٱلأَوْسَط»، وَيَقُولُ مِثْلُهَا ٱلْعَشَرَات مِن ٱلْأَطْفَال، مَا لَهُ رَوَاج عِنْدَ دَكَاكِين ٱلتُّجَّار، مِثْلَ ٱلْعُلَب ٱلْفَارِغَة لِلْمَشْرُوبَات ٱلْغَازِيَّة وَٱلْأَسْلاك وَٱلْمَطَّاط وَٱلْفَافُون، نَكْسِبُ مِنهُ يَوْمِيًّا مَا يُسْهِمُ فِي سَدّ رَمَق عَوَائِلِنَا. لَمْ يَكُن مُصْطَلَح أَطْفَال ٱلْقُمَامَة مَعْرُوفًا فِي ٱلْبَصْرَة، وَهِيَ ٱلْمَدِينَة «ٱلْمَخْبُولَة» بِٱلْعَمَل وَجَذْب ٱلْعَاطِلِين مِن ٱلْمُحَافَظَات ٱلْقَرِيبَة، كَوْنَهَا مَدِينَةٌ لِلنَّفْط وَٱلْمَوَانِئ وَٱلنَّخِيل، وَقَد بَرَزَت بَوَادِر هٰذِهِ ٱلظَّاهِرَة أَيَّام ٱلْحِصَار، فِي زَمَن ٱلنِّظَام ٱلسَّابِق، وَٱخْتَفَت قَلِيلًا فِي ٱلسَّنَةِ ٱلْأُولَى مِن سُقُوطِهِ، ثُمَّ عَادَت بِقُوَّة.
Fatima Hamid (ten years old) says: When I was in the cradle my mother used to sing to me... Here [lit. now] comes Papa the hero thinking of the tank. I used to imagine that the tank was food.. But he didnt come. And after I was a little older I discovered that the tank was iron and my mother a widow and I search in rubbish dumps... As she says to Asharq Alawsat and as say likewise dozens [lit. tens] of children Fatima picks up whatever has value [lit. saleability] with the shops of the traders such as empty cans of fizzy drinks wires rubber and aluminium. We earn from it every day what plays a part in keeping our families alive [lit. blocking our families last gasp]. The term rubbish children was not known in Basra when it was a city mad with work and attracting the unemployed from the nearby provinces her being a city of oil ports and palm trees. The first signs of this phenomenon appeared in the days of the embargo [i.e. sanctions] in the time of the former regime. It disappeared slightly in the first year after its [the regimes] fall then it returned strongly.
شَاءَت ٱلصُّدْفَة أَنْ أَكُونَ فِي بَيْرُوت حِينَ اِنْفَجَرَ ٱلْخِلاف بَيْنَ طَالِبَيْن مِن جَامِعَةِ بَيْرُوت ٱلْعَرَبِيَّة لِيَتَحَوَّلَ إِلَى مُوَاجَهَةٍ مَذْهَبِيَّة تُشَكِّلُ عَيِّنَة عَمَّا يُمْكِنُ أَنْ تَكُونَ عَلَيْهِ ٱلْحَرْب ٱلْأَهْلِيَّة إِذَا وَقَعَت. فِي مَكْتَب «اَلْحَيَاة» فِي قَلْب بَيْرُوت رُحْتُ أُتَابِع ٱلْحَدَث عَبْرَ ٱلْقَنَوَات ٱلْمَحَلِّيَّةِ وَٱلْفَضَائِيَّة. شُبَّانٌ فِي مُسْتَهَلّ ٱلْعِشْرِينَات أَوْ أَقَلّ جَرَفَتْهُم رِيَاح ٱلْغَضَب. تَرَاشَقُوا بِٱلْحِجَارَة ثُمَّ ظَهَرَت ٱلْعُصِي وَمَعهَا اَلْآلات ٱلْحَادَّة. تَحَطَّمَت وَاجِهَات وَأُحْرِقَت سَيَّارَات، ثُمَّ أَطَلَّ ٱلْقَنَّاصَة فَسَمِعنَا دَوِي ٱلرَّصَاص. شَاهَدنَا عَلَى ٱلشَّاشَة اَلذُّعْر اَلَّذِي ضَرَبَ أَبْنَاء ٱلْمَحَلَّة. رَأَيْنَا بُقَع ٱلدَّم تَتَّسِعُ عَلَى أَجْسَاد مَنْ أُصِيبُوا. شَاهَدنَا سَيَّارَات ٱلْإِسْعَاف تَتَقَدَّم لِإِخْلاء ٱلْجَرْحَى وَسَطَ صَيْحَات ٱلثَّأْر. سَمِعنَا كَلامًا مَذْهَبِيًّا حَادًّا مُرْفَقًا بِقَدْرٍ غَيْرِ قَلِيل مِن ٱلشَّتَائِم وَٱلتَّهْدِيدَات. شَعَرتُ بِحُزْنٍ غَيْرُ عَادِيّ. فَهٰؤُلاءِ اَلَّذِينَ يَتَذَابَحُون فِي شَوَارِع ٱلْمَدِينَة يُفْتَرَضُ أَنْ يَكُونُوا مُسْتَقْبَلَهَا.
Chance wanted me to be in Beirut when the disagreement between two students from Beirut Arab University exploded to be transformed into a sectarian [lit. denominational] confrontation creating a sample of what a civil war could be like if it happens. In the office of Al-Hayat in the heart of Beirut I started to follow the event via the local and satellite channels. Youngsters in their early twenties or less were swept away by the winds of anger. They pelted each other with stones then sticks appeared and with them sharp implements. Shop windows were smashed cars were burnt then snipers looked out and we heard the sound of bullets. We witnessed on the screen the fear which hit the inhabitants of the quarter. We saw the spots of blood spreading out on the bodies of those who were hit. We witnessed ambulances coming forward to evacuate the wounded amid cries for revenge. We heard harsh sectarian [lit. denominational] talk accompanied by not a small amount of insults and threats. I felt an unusual sadness. Because these who are slaughtering each other in the streets of the city are supposed to be its future.
كَشَفَ مُخْتَار لَمَانِيّ، مُمَثِّل جَامِعَةِ ٱلدُّوَل ٱلْعَرَبِيَّة فِي ٱلْعِرَاق، عَن تَفَاصِيل مُثِيرَة وَخَطِيرَة عَن ٱلْوَضْع ٱلدَّاخِلِيّ فِي ٱلْعِرَاق مُحَذِّرًا مِن غِيَاب ٱلدَّوْر ٱلْعَرَبِيّ، وَتَحْوِيل عِدَّةِ أَطْرَافٍ خَارِجِيَّة لِلْأَرْض ٱلْعِرَاقِيَّة كَسَاحَةٍ لِلْاِقْتِتَال وَٱلْاِحْتِقَان ٱلطَّائِفِيّ. وَتَقَدَّمَ لَمَانِيّ بِٱسْتِقَالَتِهِ لِلْأَمِين ٱلْعَامّ لِجَامِعَةِ ٱلدُّوَل ٱلْعَرَبِيَّةِ قَبْلَ يَوْمَيْن، بَعْدَ عَمَلٍ اِسْتَمَرَّ فِي ٱلْعِرَاق نَحْوَ سَنَةٍ كَامِلَة، تَمَكَّنَ خِلالَهَا مِن إِجْرَاء اِتِّصَالَاتٍ مَع كَافَّةِ ٱلْأَطْرَاف ٱلْعِرَاقِيَّة، وَأَكَّد أَنّ ٱلْإِدَارَةَ ٱلْأَمِيرِكِيَّة اِرْتِكَبَت خَطَأً فَادِحًا بِحَلّ مُؤَسَّسَات ٱلدَّوْلَة وَٱجْتِثَاث حِزْب ٱلْبَعْث وَحَلّ ٱلْجَيْش، مُشِيرًا إِلَى أَنَّ تَقْرِير بَيْكَرـ هَامِلْتُون، لا يَخْدُمُ فِي ٱلنِّهَايَة غَيْرَ ٱلْمَصَالِح ٱلْأَمِيرِكِيَّة، وَقَال إِنَّ ٱلْحَالَةَ فِي ٱلْعِرَاق مُعَقَّدَة وَمُرَشَّحَة لِمَزِيدٍ مِن ٱلتَّعْقِيد، إِذَا ٱسْتَمَرَّت دُوَل ٱلْجِوَار فِي تَغْذِيَةِ ٱلطَّائِفِيَّة عَلَى حِسَاب مَصْلَحَةِ ٱلشَّعْب ٱلْعِرَاقِيّ.
Mukhtar Lamani the representative of the League of Arab States in Iraq disclosed provocative and significant details about the internal situation in Iraq warning of the absence of an Arab role and the transformation by several foreign parties of the Iraqi land into a kind of field for infighting and sectarian tension. Lamani submitted his resignation to the Secretary General of the League of Arab States two days ago after work in Iraq which lasted around a full year during which he was able to carry out communications with all Iraqi parties. He stressed that the American administration committed a serious [lit. burdensome] mistake with the breaking up of the state institutions and the uprooting of the Baath party and the breaking up of the army pointing out that the Baker - Hamilton report does not serve in the end anything other than American interests and he said that the situation in Iraq is complicated and a candidate [i.e. likely] for more complication if the neighbouring countries persist in feeding sectarianism at the expense of the interest of the Iraqi people.
أَوَّلًا: اَلتَّأْكِيد عَلَى تَحْرِيم ٱلدَّم ٱلْفِلَسْطِينِيّ وَٱتِّخَاذ كَافَّةِ ٱلْإِجْرَاءَات وَٱلتَّرْتِيبَات اَلَّتِي تَحُولُ دُونَ ذٰلِك، مَعَ ٱلتَّأْكِيد عَلَى أَهَمِّيَةِ ٱلْوَحْدَةِ ٱلْوَطَنِيَّة كَأَسَاسٍ لِلصُّمُود ٱلْوَطَنِيّ وَٱلتَّصَدِّي لِلْاِحْتِلال، وَتَحْقِيق ٱلْأَهْدَاف ٱلْوَطَنِيَّةِ ٱلْمَشْرُوعَة لِلشَّعْب ٱلْفِلَسْطِينِيّ، وَٱعْتِمَاد لُغَةِ ٱلْحِوَار كَأَسَاسٍ وَحِيد لِحَلّ ٱلْخِلافَات ٱلسِّيَاسِيَّة فِي ٱلسَّاحَةِ ٱلْفِلَسْطِينِيَّة. ثَانِيًا: اَلْاِتِّفَاق وَبِصُورَةٍ نِهَائِيَّة عَلَى تَشْكِيل حُكُومَةِ وَحْدَةٍ وَطَنِيَّةٍ فِلَسْطِينِيَّة وَفْقَ ٱتِّفَاقٍ تَفْصِيلِيٍّ مُعْتَمَد بَيْنَ ٱلطَّرَفَيْن، وَٱلشُّرُوع ٱلْعَاجِل فِي ٱتِّخَاذ ٱلْإِجْرَاءَات ٱلدُّسْتُورِيَّة لِتَكْرِيسِهَا. ثَالِثًا: اَلْمُضِي قُدُمًا فِي إِجْرَاءَات تَطْوِير وَإِصْلاح مُنَظَّمَةِ ٱلتَّحْرِير ٱلْفِلَسْطِينِيَّة وَتَسْرِيع عَمَل ٱللَّجْنَةِ ٱلتَّحْضِيرِيَّة اِسْتِنَادًا لِتَفَاهُمَات ٱلْقَاهِرَةِ وَدِمَشْق. وَقَد جَرَى ٱلْاِتِّفَاق عَلَى خَطَوَاتٍ تَفْصِيلِيَّةٍ بَيْنَ ٱلطَّرَفَيْن بِهٰذَا ٱلْخُصُوص. رَابِعًا: تَأْكِيد مَبْدَأ ٱلشِّرَاكَةِ ٱلسِّيَاسِيَّة عَلَى أَسَاس ٱلْقَوَانِين ٱلْمَعْمُول بِهَا فِي ٱلسُّلْطَةِ ٱلْوَطَنِيَّةِ ٱلْفِلَسْطِينِيَّة وَعَلَى قَاعِدَةِ ٱلتَّعَدُّدِيَّةِ ٱلسِّيَاسِيَّة وَفْقَ ٱتِّفَاقٍ مُعْتَمَدٍ بَيْنَ ٱلطَّرَفَيْن.
Firstly: Placing special emphasis on the forbidding of [spilling] Palestinian blood and taking all measures and steps [lit. arrangements] which stand in the way of that with special emphasis on the importance of national unity as a basis for national steadfastness and resisting the occupation. and realising the legitimate national goals of the Palestinian people and using the language of dialogue as a sole basis for solving political differences in the Palestinian arena. Secondly: Agreement in a final manner on the formation of the Palestinian national unity government in accordance with a detailed agreement approved between the two parties and the immediate commencement of the taking of constitutional measures to establish it. Thirdly: Making progress in the measures for developing and reforming the Palestine Liberation Organisation and accelerating the work of the preparatory committee based on the understandings of Cairo and Damascus. There was agreement on the detailed steps between the two parties in this regard. Fourthly: Confirming the principle of political partnership on the basis of the laws in use in the Palestinian National Authority and on the basis of political pluralism in accordance with an agreement approved between the two parties.
أَعْلَنَت ٱلشُّرْطَة ٱلْإِسْرَائِيلِيَّة فِي ٱلْقُدْس ٱلْمُحْتَلَّة رَفْع حَال ٱلتَّأَهُّب فِي صُفُوفِهَا إِلَى أَعْلَى دَرَجَةٍ تَحَسُّبًا لِغَضَبٍ فِلَسْطِينِيٍّ عَارِم فِي أَعْقَاب صَلاةِ ٱلْجُمْعَة فِي ٱلْمَسْجِد ٱلأَقْصَى ٱلْمُبَارَك اِحْتِجَاجًا عَلَى مُوَاصَلَةِ ٱلسُّلُطَات ٱلْإِسْرَائِيلِيَّة عَمَلِيَات ٱلْهَدْم وَٱلْحَفْر فِي طَرِيق بَاب ٱلْمَغَارِبَة اَلْمُتَاخِم لِلْمَسْجِد. وَرَغْمَ ٱلْقُيُود ٱلشَّدِيدَة اَلَّتِي تَفْرِضُهَا ٱلشُّرْطَة عَلَى وُصُول جُمْهُور ٱلْمُصَلِّين إِلَى ٱلْمَسْجِد، إِلَّا أَنَّهَا تَتَحَسَّب مِن ٱلنِّدَاء اَلَّذِي أَصْدَرَهُ قَاضِي قُضَاة فِلَسْطِين اَلدُّكْتُور تَيْسِير اَلتَّمِيمِيّ بِٱعْتِبَار ٱلْجُمْعَة «يَوْم غَضَب» فِي أَرْجَاء ٱلْعَالَم. فِي ٱلْمُقَابِل، اِرْتَفَعَت فِي أَوْسَاط مَسْؤُولِين إِسْرَائِيلِيِّين كِبَار أَصْوَات تُطَالِب رَئِيس ٱلْحُكُومَة إِيْهُود أُولْمَرْت بِوَقْف أَعْمَال ٱلْحَفْر فَوْرًا خَوْفًا مِن تَصَاعُد ٱلْعُنْف وَمِن تَدَهْوُر ٱلْوَضْع ٱلْأَمْنِيّ، وَهُوَ أَمْرٌ رَفَضَهُ أُولْمَرْت.
The Israeli police in occupied Jerusalem announced the raising of the state of alert in its ranks to the highest level in anticipation of Palestinian wrath [lit. vicious anger] following Friday prayers in the blessed Al-Aqsa mosque in protest against the Israeli authorities continuation of the operations of demolition and excavation in the road of Al-Maghariba [lit. Moroccans] gate adjacent to the mosque. Despite the severe restrictions which the police has imposed on the arrival of the multitude of worshipers to the mosque it nevertheless anticipates trouble from the appeal which Chief Palestinian Justice Doctor Taysir Al-Tamimi issued to consider Friday a day of anger throughout the world. In contrast voices in circles of senior Israeli officials rose calling for Prime Minister Ehud Olmert to stop the excavation works immediately in fear of the escalation of violence and of the deterioration of the security situation. This is something Olmert refused.
اِتَّخَذَت ٱلْحُكُومَةُ ٱلْعِرَاقِيَّة سِلْسِلَةَ إِجْرَاءَاتٍ أَمْنِيَّة وَفَرَضَت حَال ٱلطَّوَارِئ فِي بَغْدَاد. وَقَرَرَت إِغْلاق ٱلْحُدُود مَعَ سُورِيَّة وَإِيرَان، اِسْتِعْدَادًا لِإِطْلاق ٱلْخُطَّةِ ٱلْأَمْنِيَّة اَلْجَدِيدَة اَلَّتِي يُشَارِكُ فِيهَا خَمْسَةٌ وَثَمَانُونَ أَلْف عَسْكَرِيّ أَمِيرِكِيّ وَعِرَاقِيّ، يَتَمَتَّعُونَ بِصَلاحِيَاتٍ اِسْتِثْنَائِيَّة. فِي غُضُون ذٰلِك، وَجَّهَ رَئِيس هَيْئَةِ ٱلْأَرْكَان ٱلْأَمِيرِكِيَّة اَلْمُشْتَرَكَة اَلْجَنَرَال پِيتَر پَيْس ضَرْبَةً قَوِيَّة لِجُهُود ٱلْبَيْت ٱلْأَبْيَض فِي مُحَاوَلَتِهِ اِتِّهَام طَهْرَان بِٱلتَّوَرُّط فِي ٱلْعِرَاق، بِإِعْلانِهِ عَدَم وُجُود دَلِيلٍ أَكِيدٍ عَلَى أَنَّ ٱلْحُكُومَةَ ٱلْإِيْرَانِيَّة تُزَوِّدُ ٱلْمُسَلَّحِين ٱلْعِرَاقِيِّين أَسْلِحَة وَمُتَفَجِّرَاتٍ قَاتِلَة، مُنَاقِضًا بِذٰلِك مَزَاعِم مَسْؤُولِين عَسْكَرِيِّين وَمَدَنِيِّين. عَلَى صَعِيدٍ آخَر اِفْتَتَحَ وَزِير ٱلْخَارِجِيَّة ٱلْعِرَاقِيّ هُوشْيَار زِيبَارِيّ أَمْس، سِفَارَةَ بِلادِه فِي ٱلرِّيَاض. وَأَكَّدَ خِلالَ مُؤْتَمَرٍ صَحَافِيّ وُجُود سُعُودِيِّين فِي ٱلسُّجُون ٱلْعِرَاقِيَّة. وَطَالَبَ «ٱلْأَشِقَّاء ٱلْعَرَب بِٱلتَّعَاوُن فِي تَطْبِيق ٱلْخُطَّةِ ٱلْأَمْنِيَّةِ» ٱلْجَدِيدَة.
The Iraqi government took a series of security measures and imposed a state of emergency in Baghdad. And it decided on the closing of the borders with Syria and Iran in preparation for the launching of the new security plan which eighty five thousand American and Iraqi soldiers enjoying emergency [lit. exceptional] powers are participating in. In the meantime Chairman of the American Joint Chiefs of Staff General Peter Pace directed a strong blow against the efforts of the White House in its attempt to accuse Tehran of involvement in Iraq with his announcement of the non-existence of firm evidence that the Iranian government is supplying Iraqi militias [lit. armed people] weapons and lethal explosives contradicting with that the allegations of military and civilian officials. On another front the Iraqi foreign minister Hoshyar Zebari yesterday opened the embassy of his country in Riyadh. And he confirmed during a press conference the presence of Saudis in Iraqi prisons. And he called on brother Arabs to cooperate in the implementation of the (new) security plan.
أَحْيَا لُبْنَان أَمْس اَلذِّكْرَى ٱلثَّانِيَة لـِ«زِلْزَال» اِغْتِيَال اَلْحَرِيرِي، فَشَارَكَ مِئَات ٱلْآلاف فِي تَجَمُّعٍ أُقِيمَ عَلَى مَقْرَبَةٍ مِن ضَرِيحِه وَسْطَ بَيْرُوت يَفْصِلُهُم سِيَاجٌ شَائِك وَمُكَهْرَب عَن اِعْتِصَام ٱلْمُعَارَضَةِ ٱلْمُسْتَمِرّ مُنْذُ خَمْسٌ وَسَبْعُون يَوْمًا. وَحَفَلَت كَلِمَات ٱلْخُطَبَاء بِٱلْمَوَاقِف ٱلنَّارِيَّة حِيَالَ سُورِيَّة، وَٱلرَّئِيس بَشَّار ٱلأَسَد تَحْدِيدًا، إِذ وَجَّهَ إِلَيْهِ ٱلزَّعِيم ٱلدُّرْزِيّ، وَلِيد جُنْبلاطّ، عِبَارَاتٍ لاذِعَة. وَاصِفًا إِيَّاه بـِ«طَاغِيَةِ دِمَشْق» وَقَال «فِي هٰذِهِ ٱلسَّنَة وَٱلْقَوْل لَنَا، لـِ«أَرْبَعَةَ عَشَر آذَار» وَكُلّ ٱلْلُبْنَانِيِّين، فِي هٰذِهِ ٱلسَّنَة سَتَأْتِي ٱلْمَحْكَمَة وَمَعهَا ٱلْقِصَاص وَٱلْعَدْل وَحُكْم ٱلْإِعْدَام». فِيمَا تَوَلَّى ٱلنَّائِب سَعْد اَلْحَرِيرِي «اَلْمُهِمَّة ٱلسِّيَاسِيَّة» بِخِطَابٍ مُعْتَدِل ٱللَّهْجَة تَوَجَّهَ فِيه إِلَى ٱلْمُعَارَضَة بِمَدّ ٱلْيَد إِلَى حِوَار شُجْعَان «مَدْخَلُهُ إِقْرَار اَلْمَحْكَمَة ٱلدَّوْلِيَّة».
Lebanon yesterday observed [lit. gave new life to] the second anniversary [lit. remembrance] of the earthquake of the assassination of Al-Hariri as hundreds of thousands participated in a rally [lit. gathering] held close to his tomb in the centre of Beirut. A barbed and electrified fence separated them from the sit-in of the opposition which has lasted for seventy five days. The words of the speakers abounded with fiery attitudes as regards Syria and President Bashar al-Assad specifically as the Druze leader Walid Jumblatt directed burning phrases at him describing him as the Tyrant of Damascus and he said in this year and it is for us to say [that is] for the [forces of the] Fourteenth of March and all the Lebanese people in this year the tribunal will come and with it punishment and justice and the death sentence. While the representative [i.e. MP] Saad Al-Hariri assumed responsibility for the political task with a moderately toned speech in which he turned to the opposition extending a [conciliatory] hand towards a dialogue of the brave whose starting point [lit. entrance] is the affirmation of the international tribunal.
دَخَلَت ٱلصِّحَافَةُ ٱلْعِبْرِيَّة عَلَى خَطّ ٱلتَّبَايُن دَاخِلَ قِيَادَةِ ٱلْجَيْش ٱلْإِسْرَائِيلِيّ حَوْلَ نِيَّات سُورِيَّة ٱلْعَسْكَرِيَّة، وَأَشَاعَت صَحِيفَةُ «هَآرِتْس» فِي عُنْوَانِهَا ٱلرَّئِيسِي أَمْس اَلْاِنْطِبَاع بِأَنَّ سُورِيَّة تُعِدُّ لِهُجُومٍ عَسْكَرِيٍّ عَلَى إِسْرَائِيل وَأَنَّهَا قَامَت بِتَحْرِيك قُوَّاتٍ بِٱتِّجَاه ٱلْجَوْلان ٱلسُّورِيّ ٱلْمُحْتَلّ، وَأَضَافَت إِلَيهِ خَبَرًا بِأَنَّ دِمَشْق دَخَلَت فِي سِبَاق تَسَلُّحٍ بِدَعْمٍ مِن إِيرَان وَأَنَّهَا عَلَى وَشْك عَقْد صَفْقَةٍ ضَخْمَة مَعَ رُوسِيَا لِٱبْتِيَاع آلاف ٱلْمُضَادَّات لِلْمُدَرَّعَات مِن أَحْدَث طِرَاز. إِلَّا أَنَّ ٱلتَّمْحِيص فِي مَتْن ٱلْخَبَر أَظْهَرَ، خِلافًا لِلْعُنْوَان ٱلْجَازِم، بِأَنَّ تَحْرِيك ٱلْقُوَّات لَيْسَ أَكِيدًا، كَمَا كَتَبَ ٱلْخَبِير فِي ٱلشُّؤُون ٱلْاِسْترَاتِيجِيَّة زَئِيف شِيف، إِنَّمَا «يَبْدُو» أَنَّ تَحْرِيك قُوَّات مَا قَد حَصَل.
The Hebrew press entered on the scene [lit. line] of divergence [of opinion] within the leadership of the Israeli army concerning Syrias military intentions as the newspaper Haaretz in its main headline yesterday made public the impression that Syria is preparing for a military attack on Israel and that it had carried out the moving of forces in the direction of the occupied Syrian Golan [Heights]. And it added to this news that Damascus had entered into an arms race with support from Iran and that it is on the verge of concluding [lit. contracting] a huge deal with Russia for the purchase of thousands of anti-tank missiles of the latest model. Except that a close examination into the body of the news story revealed a difference from the confident [lit. absolutely certain] headline in that the moving of the forces is not certain as the expert in strategic affairs Zeev Schiff wrote that it only appears that the moving of some forces has happened.
أَثَارَت ثَلاثَةُ تَفْجِيرَات خِلالَ أُسْبُوع بِسَيَّارَاتٍ مُفَخَّخَةٍ اُسْتُخْدِمَت فِيهَا مَادَّةُ ٱلْكْلُور، مَخَاوِف مِن أَنْ تُصْبِحَ «ٱلْحَرْب ٱلْكِيمَاوِيَّة» بُعْدًا جَدِيدًا فِي مُسَلْسَل اَلْعُنْف اَلْعِرَاقِيّ. مِن نَاحِيَةٍ ثَانِيَة، تَوَسَّعَ مِلَفّ ٱلْاِغْتِصَاب بَعْدَ ٱتِّهَامَات سَاقَتْهَا ضِدّ عَنَاصِر ٱلْأَمْن، سَيِّدَةٌ عِرَاقِيَّةٌ ثَانِيَة، وَأَكَّدَتْهَا ٱلسُّلُطَات. وَأَكَّدَ مَصْدَرٌ مَسْؤُول فِي وِزَارَةِ ٱلدَّاخِلِيَّة لـِ«ٱلشَّرْق ٱلأَوْسَط»، أَنَّ ٱلْأَجْهِزَة ٱلْأَمْنِيَّة أَحْصَت حَتَّى ٱلآن ثَلاثَة اِنْفِجَارَات اُسْتُخْدِمَ فِيهَا ٱلْكْلُور فِي مَنَاطِق اَلتَّاجِي (إِلَى ٱلشَّمَال مِن بَغْدَاد) وَٱلْبَيَّاع وَحَيّ ٱلْعَامِل (فِي ٱلْعَاصِمَة). وَأَضَافَ ٱلْمَسْؤُول اَلَّذِي يَعْمَل فِي قِسْم ٱلْمُتَفَجِّرَات «أَنَّ ٱلْمَجَامِيع ٱلْإِرْهَابِيَّة اِسْتَخْدَمَت مَادَّةَ ٱلْكْلُور اَلسَّائِل ٱلشَّدِيد ٱلتَّرْكِيز وَبِكَمِّيَّاتٍ كَبِيرَةٍ جِدًّا وَوَضَعُوهَا فِي صَهَارِيجٍ صَغِيرَة تُسْتَخْدَم عَادَةً فِي نَقْل ٱلْمُشْتَقَات ٱلنَّفْطِيَّة إِلَى ٱلْمَنَاطِق ٱلسَّكَنِيَّة». وَأَضَاف أَنَّ «هٰذَا يُؤَكِّد أَنَّ ٱلْإِرْهَابِيِّين حَصَلُوا عَلَى هٰذِهِ ٱلْمَوَادّ بِطُرُقٍ مُخْتَلِفَة، وَنَحْنُ ٱلآن نَتَحَرَّى مَصَادِرَهَا».
Three explosions within a week involving car bombs in which was used the substance chlorine raised [lit. stirred up] fears that chemical warfare will become a new dimension in the cycle [lit. series] of Iraqi violence. On another issue [lit. from a second side] the rape file expanded after accusations a second Iraqi woman made [lit. drove] against elements of the security [forces] which the authorities confirmed. An official source in the Ministry of the Interior also confirmed to Asharq Alawsat that the security apparatus had counted up to now three explosions in which chlorine was used in the areas of At-Taji (to the north of Baghdad) and Al-Bayya` and Hayy ~l-Amil [lit. District of the Worker] (in the capital). The official who works in the explosives section added that the terrorist groups had used the substance highly concentrated liquid chlorine and in very large quantities. and they had put it in small tanks [containers] used usually in the transportation of oil derivatives to residential areas. And he added that this confirms that the terrorists obtained these materials by various means and we are now investigating their [the materials] sources.
كَشَفَ عُضْو ٱلْكْنِيسِت (اَلْبَرْلَمَان ٱلْإِسْرَائِيلِيّ) عَن ٱلْحَرَكَةِ ٱلْإِسْلامِيَّة، اَلشَّيْخ عَبَّاس زَكُور وَجَمْعِيَّةِ ٱلأَقْصَى لِرِعَايَةِ ٱلْأَوْقَاف وَٱلْمُقَدَّسَات ٱلْإِسْلامِيَّة، عَن ظُهُور مِحْرَابٍ وَغُرْفَتَيْن (قَنْطَرَتَيْن) مِن بَقَايَا مَسْجِدٍ إِسْلامِيّ فِي مَكَان ٱلْحَفْرِيَات اَلَّتِي تَقُومُ بِهَا اَلسُّلُطَات ٱلْإِسْرَائِيلِيَّة عِنْدَ بَاب ٱلْمَغَارِبَة فِي مُحِيط ٱلْمَسْجِد ٱلأَقْصَى ٱلْمُبَارَك فِي ٱلْقُدْس ٱلشَّرِيف. وَزَارَ ٱلشَّيْخ زَكُور بِرِفْقَةِ مَنْدُوب جَمْعِيَّةِ ٱلأَقْصَى اَلْمَوْقِع وَوَثَّقَ ٱلْحَفْرِيَات بِٱلصُّوَر، اَلَّتِي تُظْهِر جَلِيًّا وُجُود قَنْطَرَتَيْن فِي ٱلْجِهَةِ ٱلشَّمَالِيَّةِ ٱلسُّفْلَى لِلْجِسْر اَلْمُؤَدِّي إِلَى بَاب ٱلْمَغَارِبَة، إِحْدَى هَاتَيْن ٱلْقَنْطَرَتَيْن تَحْتَوِي عَلَى مِشْكَاة مِن ٱلْجِهَةِ ٱلْيُمْنَى وَعَلَى مِشْكَاةٍ ثَانِيَة مِن ٱلنَّاحِيَةِ ٱلْيُسْرَى، وَهُوَ ٱلْمَكَان اَلَّذِي كَانَت تُوضَع فِيهِ قَنَادِيل ٱلزَّيْت لِلْإِضَاءَة.
The Member of the Knesset (the Israeli parliament) for the Islamic Movement Sheikh Abbas Zakour and the Al-Aqsa Association for the Preservation of Awqaf [property piously donated] and Islamic Consecrated Property revealed the appearance of a mihrab [recess in mosque wall indicating direction of Mecca] and two rooms (vaulted chambers) from among the remains of an Islamic mosque at the place of the excavations which the Israeli authorities are carrying out near Al-Maghariba gate [lit. Moroccans gate] in the area around the blessed Al-Aqsa mosque in Al-Quds Al-Shareef [noble Jerusalem]. Sheikh Zakour in the company of a delegate of the Al-Aqsa Association visited the site and documented the excavations with photographs which clearly show the presence of two vaults on the lower northern side of the bridge leading to Al-Maghariba gate. One of these two vaults contains a niche on the right hand side and [contains] a second niche on the left hand side this is the place which oil lamps used to be placed in for illumination.
حَذَّرَ ٱلزَّعِيم ٱللِّيبِيّ اَلْعَقِيد مُعَمَّر ٱلْقَذَّافِيّ مِن مُخَطَّطَاتٍ قَالَ أَنَّ ٱلْغَرْب يَحِيكُهَا لِلسَّيْطَرَةِ عَلَى ثَرَوَات لِيبِيَا، وَاصِفًا ٱلرَّئِيس ٱلْعِرَاقِيّ ٱلسَّابِق صَدَّام حُسَيْن بِأَنَّهُ «شَهِيد قِدِّيس... أَفْضَل مِن ٱلْحُكَّام ٱلْعَرَب ٱلْأَحْيَاء». وَقَالَ ٱلْقَذَّافِيّ، أَمَامَ مُلْتَقًى عَالَمِيّ حَوْلَ «أَزْمَةِ ٱلدِّيمُوقرَاطِيَةِ فِي ٱلْعَالَم» عُقِدَ أَمْس فِي مَدِينَةِ سَبْهَا (فِي مِنْطَقَةِ فَزَّان فِي أَقْصَى ٱلْجَنُوب ٱللِّيبِيّ) لِمُنَاسَبَةِ ٱلذِّكْرَى ٱلثَّلاثِين لِإِعْلان «سُلْطَةِ ٱلشَّعْب»، إِنَّ ٱلصِّرَاعَات ٱلدَّامِيَّة اَلَّتِي يَشْهَدُهَا ٱلْعَالَم اَلْيَوْم هِيَ «نِتَاجٌ طَبِيعِيّ لِٱنْفِرَاد قِلَّةٍ بِٱلسُّلْطَةِ وَٱلْحُكْم فِي ٱلْعَالَم». وَأَكَّد أَنَّ «ٱلْاِسْتِعْمَار لَنْ يَسْتَطِيع، مَهْمَا تَآمَر، اَلْعَوْدَة إِلَى ٱلْبُلْدَان اَلَّتِي كَانَ يَحْكُمُهَا». وَٱعْتَبَر «أَنَّ اَلَّذِينَ يَحْكُمُون ٱلْعَالَم اَلآن هُم أَقَلِيَّةٌ جِدًّا، إِذْ يَحْكُمُ نَحْوَ مِئَة وَتِسْعُون شَخْصًا فَقَط قُرَابَةَ سِتَّةِ مِلْيَارَات مِن ٱلْبَشَر، وَهُوَ مَا جَعَلَ ٱلشُّعُوب اَلآن لا تَعِيش فِي آمَان وَغَيْرُ مُطْمَئِنَّة عَلَى حَيَاتِهَا وَمُسْتَقْبَلِهَا».
The Libyan leader Colonel Muammar al-Gaddafi has warned of schemes he says that the West is hatching [lit. weaving] to gain control of the resources of Libya describing the former Iraqi president Saddam Hussein as a saintly martyr... better than the living Arab rulers. And Gaddafi said in front of a global gathering concerning the crisis of democracy in the world which was held yesterday in the city of Sabha (in the region of Fazzan in the far south of Libya) on the occasion of the thirtieth anniversary [lit. remembrance] of the declaration of the authority of the people that the bloody struggles which the world is witnessing today are a natural result of a few [people] isolating themselves with authority and power in the world. And he stressed that colonialism will not be able however much it plots to return to the countries which it used to rule. and he considered that those who rule the world now are a very [small] minority as around one hundred and ninety people only rule almost six billion human beings and this is what has made the people [of the world] now [find themselves] not living in security and not feeling assured of their lives and their future.
مَا إِنْ تَطَأُ قَدَمَك أَرْض مَدِينَةِ جَرَمَانَا، جَنُوب ٱلْعَاصِمَةِ ٱلسُّورِيَّة دِمَشْق حَتَّى تَنْسَى أَوْ تَضْطَرّ لِتَتَنَاسَى أَنَّكَ فِي سُورِيَّة، فَمُنْذُ سُقُوط ٱلنِّظَام فِي ٱلْعِرَاق عَقِبَ ٱلْغَزْو ٱلْأَمِيرِكِيّ فِي آذَار (مَارِس) أَلْفَيْن وَثَلاثَة تَحَوَّلَت هٰذِهِ ٱلْمَدِينَة «ٱلْوِدِّيَة» كَمَا يَصِفُهَا ٱلسَّاكِنُون ٱلْجُدُد إِلَى مَدِينَةٍ عِرَاقِيَّة مَعَ نُزُوح آلاف ٱلْعَائِلات ٱلْعِرَاقِيَّة هَارِبَةً مِن وَيْلات ٱلْحَرْب وَتَدَاعِيَاتِهَا لِيَصِل عَدَد أَفْرَادِهَا فِي ٱلْمُدُن ٱلسُّورِيَّة إِلَى مِلْيُون نَازِح بِحَسَبِ آخِر إِحْصَاءَات مُفَوَّضِيَّةِ ٱللّاجِئِين اَلدَّوْلِيَّة. هٰذَا ٱللُّجُوء لَيْسَ فِي ٱلْغَالِب سَفْرَةً سِيَاحِيَّة أَوْ بَقَاءً مُوَقَّتًا بَل هُوَ هِجْرَة حَتَّى إِشْعَار آخَر أَوْ بِٱلْأَحْرَى اِنْتِظَارٌ لِلْحُصُول عَلَى فُرْصَةٍ لِلسَّفَر إِلَى دَوْلَةٍ ثَالِثَة عَبْرَ ٱلتَّقَدُّم بِطَلَبَات لُجُوء إِلَى ٱلسِّفَارَات ٱلْأَجْنَبِيَّة وَلَدَى مُنَظَّمَةِ ٱلْأُمَم ٱلْمُتَّحِدَة أَوْ إِلَى أَنْ يَتَحَسَّن ٱلْوَضْع ٱلْأَمْنِيّ فِي ٱلْعِرَاق وَهُوَ أَمْرٌ بَعِيد ٱلْمَنَال.
No sooner have you set foot on the ground of the city of Jaramana south of the Syrian capital Damascus than you forget or are forced to neglect the fact that you are in Syria. Because since the fall of the regime in Iraq following the American invasion in ;Aadhaar (March) two thousand and three [2003] this friendly city as the new inhabitants describe it has been transformed into an Iraqi city with the emigration of thousands of Iraqi families escaping from the woes of war and its repercussions. The number of individual members [of these families] in Syrian cities has as a result reached one million emigrants according to the latest statistics of the international High Commission for Refugees [i.e. UNHCR] This seeking of refuge is not for the most part a tourist trip or a temporary stay. Rather it is a migration until further notice [i.e. with no fixed end]. Or to be more precise a wait to get the opportunity to travel to a third country by submitting requests for asylum to foreign embassies and with the United Nations organisation or until the security situation in Iraq improves. This is something a long way off [lit. far from attainment].
مِن ٱلْمَعْلُوم فِي ٱلشَّرِيعَةِ ٱلْإِسْلامِيَّة أَنَّ ٱلنَّاس جَمِيعًا سَوَاسِيَةٌ كَأَسْنَان ٱلْمُشْط؛ لِأَنُّهُم مِن أَبٍ وَاحِد وَأُمٍّ وَاحِدَة، وَإِنَّمَا يُفَضَّلُ ٱلْفَاضِل مِنهُم بِتَقْوَى ٱلله وَحْدَه، كَمَا قَالَ تَعَالَى: «إِنَّ أَكْرَمَكُم عِنْدَ ٱلله أَتْقَاكُمْ»، وَفِي ٱلْحَدِيث: «لا فَضْل لِعَرَبِيٍّ عَلَى أَعْجَمِيّ وَلا لِعَجَمِيٍّ عَلَى عَرَبِيّ وَلا لِأَحْمَرٍ عَلَى أَسْوَد وَلا أَسْوَدٍ عَلَى أَحْمَر إِلَّا بِٱلتَّقْوَى» رَوَاهُ أَحْمَد. اَلنَّاس لِآدَم وَآدَم مِن تُرَاب، وَلِهٰذَا مِن ٱلْمُقَرَّر فِي ٱلشَّرْع تَكَافُؤ ٱلنَّاس وَتَسَاوِيهِم فِي أَنْسَابِهِم، وَلِهٰذَا عَمِلَ ٱلصَّدْر ٱلْأَوَّل مِن هٰذِهِ ٱلْأُمَّة بِقَاعِدَةِ تَكَافُؤ ٱلنَّاس فِي أَنْسَابِهِم، وَفِي ٱلْحَدِيث: «يَا بَنِي بَيَاضَة أَنْكِحُوا أَبَا هِنْدٍ وَأَنْكِحُوا إِلَيه» رَوَاه أَبُو دَاوُد وَصَحَّحَهُ اِبْن حَجَر.
It is known in Islamic Sharia [law] that people are all equal like the teeth of a comb; Because they are from one father [i.e. Adam] and one mother [i.e. Eve]. And indeed that the favoured of them is favoured only by [his] fearing of [i.e. piety towards] God. As [God] The Sublime said: Verily the most honoured of you before God is [he who is] the most pious. [Qur;an 49:13] And in the Hadith [Prophetic tradition] There is no preference of an Arab over a non-Arab nor of a non-Arab over an Arab and nor of a red [i.e. white man] over a black nor black over red except through piety which Ahmad [d. 855 AD] related. The people belong to Adam and Adam is from dust. And so the equalness of people and their equality in ancestry is established in Islamic law. Hence the first period of this nation [of Islam] worked with the principle of equalness of the people in their ancestry. And in the Hadith O Bani [approx. tribe of] Bayada marry off your daughters to Abu Hind [who married his daughter to a slave] and marry off his daughters [to you] which Abu Dawud [d. 888 AD] related and Ibn Hajar [d. 1449 AD] authenticated.
