قرد ضخم يثير الذعر بين المواطنين في صعيد مصر

أَثَارَ قِرْدٌ ضَخْم فَرَّ مِن حَدِيقَةِ حَيَوَانٍ صَغِيرَة مُلْحَقَة بِجَمْعِيَّةِ دَار ٱلْأَيْتَام فِي مَدِينَةِ ٱلْمِنْيَا بِصَعِيد مِصْر حَالَةً مِن ٱلذُّعْر وَٱلْهَلَع بَيْنَ ٱلْمُوَاطِنِين، وَخَاصَّةً بَعْدَمَا شَاهَدُوه يَقْفِز فَوْقَ أَسْطُح ٱلْبِنَايَات، فِي أَعْقَاب فَشَل ٱلْمَسْؤُولِين بِٱلْإِمْسَاك بِه. وَكَانَ ٱلْقِرْد قَد أُلْحِقَ بِحَدِيقَةِ ٱلدَّار فِي ٱلْمِنْيَا عِنْدَمَا كَانَ صَغِير ٱلسِّنّ كَهَدِيَّةٍ مِن حَدِيقَةِ حَيَوَان ٱلْجِيزَة، لٰكِنَّهُ بَعْدَمَا كَبُرَ وَشَبَّ عَن ٱلطَّوْق أَخَذَ يَتَمَرَّد إِلَى أَنْ اِسْتَطَاعَ ٱلْفِرَار مِن ٱلْقَفَص. وَأَكَّدَ عَدَدٌ مِن أَهَالِي ٱلْمَدِينَة أَنَّ ٱلْقِرْد يَتَنَقَّل بِحُرِّيَّة عَلَى أَسْطُح ٱلْعِمَارَات، مُعْرِبِين عَن خَشْيَتِهِم مِن أَنْ يُقَرِّرَ مُهَاجَمَةَ أَوْلادِهِم عِنْدَمَا يَشْعُرُ بِٱلْجُوع. وَٱتَّهَمَ آخَرُون مَسْؤُولِي اَلطِّبّ ٱلْبَيْطَرِيّ وَدَار ٱلْأَيْتَام بِٱلتَّقْصِير فِي حِمَايَةِ حَدِيقَةِ ٱلْحَيَوَان، وَضَعْف ٱلْحِرَاسَة اَلضَّرُورِيَّة لِحِمَايَةِ وَمُرَاقَبَةِ ٱلْحَيَوَانَات اَلْمَوْجُودَة بِٱلْحَدِيقَة. كَذٰلِكَ ٱنْتَقَدَ ٱلْأَهَالِي اَلطُّرُق ٱلْبَدَائِيَّة اَلَّتِي يَتَّبِعُهَا ٱلْمَسْؤُولُون فِي مُلاحَقَةِ ٱلْقِرْد.


A huge monkey/ape which escaped from a small zoo attached to an orphanage [charitable] society in the city of Minya in Upper Egypt caused a state of fear and panic among the citizens especially after they saw it jumping on top of the [flat] roofs of buildings following the failure of officials to capture it. The monkey joined the zoo [lit. garden] of the [childrens] home in Minya when it was young of age as a gift from the Giza Zoo but after it grew bigger and grew up it started becoming rebellious until it was able to escape from the cage. A number of people of the city confirmed that the monkey was moving about freely on the roofs of buildings and expressed their fears that it would decide to attack their children when it feels hungry. Others accused those in charge of veterinary medicine and the orphanage of laxity in protecting the zoo and weakness in the necessary guarding to protect and supervise the animals present in the zoo. Similarly people criticized the primitive methods which officials were following in chasing the monkey.

هَدَمَتْ جَرَّافَات وِزَارَةِ ٱلدَّاخِلِيَّةِ ٱلْإِسْرَائِيلِيَّة، أَمْس، قَرْيَةَ ٱلْعَرَاقِيب عَلَى مَا فِيهَا مِن بُيُوت ٱلصَّفِيح وَأَشْجَار وَسَوَّتْهَا بِٱلْأَرْض، وَشَرَّدَتْ ٱلْمِئَات مِن ٱلْمُوَاطِنِين اَلْعَرَب فِي إِسْرَائِيل (فِلَسْطِينِيِّي ثَمَانِيَة وَأَرْبَعِين) وَتَرَكَتْهُم فِي ٱلْعَرَاء فِي مِنْطَقَةِ ٱلنَّقَب اَلْجَنُوبِيَّة، وَذٰلِكَ مِن أَجْل تَوْسِيع مَدِينَةِ بِئْر ٱلسَّبْع لِصَالِح ٱلسُّكَّان ٱلْيَهُود. وَٱلْعَرَاقِيب قَرْيَةٌ بَدَوِيَّةٌ قَدِيمَة فِي ٱلنَّقَب، تَحْتَوِي عَلَى مَقْبَرَةٍ قَدِيمَةٍ وَآثَار تَارِيخِيَّة كَثِيرَة، تُؤَكِّد أَنَّهَا كَانَتْ مَسْكُونَةً عَبْرَ مِئَات ٱلسِّنِين. وَلٰكِنَّ ٱلسُّلُطَات ٱلْإِسْرَائِيلِيَّة خَطَّطَتْ لِإِقَامَةِ حَدِيقَةٍ قَوْمِيَّة فِي مَوْقِعِهَا، حَتَّى تَمْنَعَ اِمْتِدَاد مَدِينَةِ رَهَط اَلْعَرَبِيَّة جَنُوبًا بِٱتِّجَاه بِئْر ٱلسَّبْع. فَطَارَدَتْ دَائِمًا أَهْلَهَا، وَفِي فَبْرَايِر (شُبَاط) ٱلْمَاضِي جَرَفَتْ أَرَاضِي وَدَمَّرَتْ مُنْتَجَاتَهَا ٱلزِّرَاعِيَّة وَأَبْلَغَتْ أَهْلَهَا بِأَنَّ عَلَيْهِم اَلْاِنْتِقَال لِلسَّكَن دَاخِلَ ٱلْمَدِينَة ٱلْمُجَاوِرَة وَمُغَادَرَةَ أَرَاضِيهِم. وَعِنْدَمَا رَفَضُوا ٱلتَّنَازُل عَن أَرَاضِيهِم أَصْدَرَتْ أَوَامِر هَدْمٍ لِجَمِيع بُيُوت ٱلصَّفِيح اَلَّتِي يُقِيمُون فِيهَا.


Bulldozers of the Israeli Interior Ministry yesterday demolished/cleared the village of Araqeeb of all that was in it in terms of tin-sheet houses and trees and leveled it to the ground and made homeless hundreds of Arab citizens in Israel ([known as] Palestinians of 1948) and left them in the open air in the region of the southern Negev [desert]. This was for the sake of extending the city of Beersheba for the benefit of the Jewish inhabitants. Araqeeb is an old Beduin village in the Negev and it contains an old cemetery and many historic remains which confirm that it had been inhabited for hundreds of years. But the Israeli authorities had made plans to set up a national park on its site in order to stop the expansion of the Arab town of Rahat southwards in the direction of Beersheba so it [Israel] continually pursued its [the villages] people and last February (Shubat) it swept away lands and destroyed its [the villages] agricultural produce and informed its people that they had to move to accommodation in the nearby town and leave their land. But when they refused to give up their land it [Israel] issued demolition orders for all the tin-sheet houses which they were living in.

سَنَاء (خَمْس وَثَلاثُون سَنَة) مُوَظَّفَةٌ وَزَوْجَةٌ وَأُمٌّ لِوَلَدَيْن، تُطْلِق عَلَى رِحْلَةِ ٱلْمَصِيف اَلسَّنَوِيَّة تَسْمِيَةَ «رِحْلَةِ ٱلْعَذَاب». فَهِيَ تُسَافِر مَعَ أُسْرَتِهَا لِمُدَّةِ عَشَرَةِ أَيَّام إِلَى مَرْسَى مَطْرُوح فِي رِحْلَةٍ تُنَظِّمُهَا ٱلشَّرِكَة اَلَّتِي يَعْمَلُ فِيهَا زَوْجُهَا. اَلْمَصِيف عِبَارَةً عَن عِمَارَةٍ سَكَنِيَّة مُقَسَّمَةٍ إِلَى شُقَق، تَقُوم كُلّ أُسْرَة مِن أُسَر ٱلْمُوَظَّفِين بِقَضَاء أَيَّام ٱلْإِجَازَةِ فِيهَا. وَلِأَنَّهَا لَيْسَتْ إِقَامَة فُنْدُقِيَّة، فَإِنَّ ذٰلِك يَعْنِي وَاحِدًا مِن ثَلاثَةِ حُلُولٍ لا رَابِع لَهَا. اَلْحَلّ ٱلْأَوَّل هُوَ أَنْ تَعْتَمِدَ ٱلْأُسَر عَلَى تَنَاوُل ٱلْوَجَبَات فِي ٱلْمَطَاعِم وَتَسْتَعِين بِعَامِل نَظَافَةٍ لِتَنْظِيف ٱلْبَيْت. وَٱلْحَلّ ٱلثَّانِي هُوَ أَنْ تُقَسَّم هٰذِهِ ٱلْأَعْمَال عَلَى أَفْرَاد ٱلْأُسْرَة. وَٱلثَّالِث هُوَ أَنْ تَتَوَلَّى ٱلزَّوْجَة اَلْمُهِمَّة كَامِلَةً مِن أَلِفِهَا إِلَى يَائِهَا. وَهٰذَا يَعْنِي أَنَّ ٱلْحَلّ ٱلثَّالِث «يَسُود».


Sana (35 years old) an office worker wife and mother to two boys gives the annual trip to the summer resort the name the torture trip as she travels with her family for a period of ten days to Marsa Matruh on a trip which the company which her husband works at organises. The summer resort consists of a residential building divided into flats which every family from the families of the employees goes [lit. undertakes] to spend the days of the holiday in. And because it is not a hotel stay that means one of three solutions there being no fourth; The first solution is that the families rely on having meals in restaurants and calling for the help of a cleaner to clean the house. The second solution is that these chores/tasks are divided among the members of the family. The third is that the wife takes on the task completely from A to Z. This means that the third solution prevails.

أَثَارَ قَرَار ٱلْحُكُومَةِ ٱلْمِصْرِيَّة بِتَغْيِير ٱلسَّاعَةِ وَٱلْعَوْدَة إِلَى ٱلتَّوْقِيت ٱلشِّتْوِيّ بِٱلتَّزَامُن مَعَ بِدَايَةِ شَهْر رَمَضَان كَثِيرًا مِن ٱلْحَيْرَةِ وَٱلْجَدَل، خَاصَّةً أَنَّ ٱلْقَرَار سَيَتْبَعُهُ قَرَارٌ آخَر بِٱلْعَوْدَة إِلَى ٱلتَّوْقِيت ٱلصَّيْفِيّ مَرَّة أُخْرَى عَقِبَ اِنْتِهَاء ٱلشَّهْر ٱلْكَرِيم. «سَاعَةُ ٱلْحُكُومَة» كَمَا يَحْلُو لِلْمِصْرِيِّين تَسْمِيَتَهَا تَنَدُّرًا عَلَى عَدَم اِسْتِقْرَارِهَا، أَثَارَتْ جَدَلًا بِجَانِب ٱلْاِرْتِبَاك، فَٱعْتَبَر بَعْض عُلَمَاء ٱلْأَزْهَر مِثْل ٱلدُّكْتُور مَبْرُوك عَطِيَّة تَغْيِيرَهَا إِثْمًا وَنَوْعًا مِن ٱلتَّحَايُل عَلَى ٱلصَّوْم، فِي حِين قَالَ آخَرُون إِنَّهَا تَدْخُل ضِمْن نِطَاق «ٱلْأُمُور ٱلدُّنْيَوِيَّة». اَلْحُكُومَةُ ٱلْمِصْرِيَّة كَانَتْ تَقُول فِي تَبْرِيرِهَا لِلْأَخْذ بِٱلتَّوْقِيت ٱلصَّيْفِيّ إِنَّهُ يُوَفِّرُ ٱلطَّاقَة، وَيَضْمَن ذَهَاب ٱلْمُوَظَّفِين لِلْعَمَل مُبَكِّرًا، كَمَا يَضْمَن نَوْمَهُم مُبَكِّرًا أَيْضًا.


A resolution by the Egyptian government to change the time and return to winter time to coincide with the start of the month of Ramadan caused much confusion and argument especially as the resolution will be followed by another resolution for the return to summer time once again following the end of the holy [lit. generous] month. Government time as the Egyptians like to call it as a joke due to its instability caused controversy besides confusion - some al-Azhar scholars such as Dr. Mabrouk Atia consider its changing [to be] a sin and a type of cunning means against fasting while others say that it falls [lit. enters] within the scope of worldly affairs. The Egyptian government had said in its justification for adopting summer time that it saves energy and guarantees the going of employees to work early just as it guarantees their going to sleep early as well.

لا تَتَطَلَّب مِهْنَةُ تَلْمِيع ٱلْأَحْذِيَة شَهَادَات أَوْ مُقَوِّمَاتٍ خَاصَّة مِن ٱلشَّبَاب اَلَّذِينَ يَمْتَهِنُونَهَا أَكْثَر مِن خِفَّةِ يَد، وَٱلْقَلِيل مِن ٱلْاِهْتِمَام بِمِزَاج ٱلزَّبُون اَلَّذِي يَتَوَقَّف عِنْدَ أَوَّل مَاسِح أَحْذِيَة تَقَع عَلَيْهِ عَيْنَاه، وَلا يَتَحَرَّك مِن أَمَامِه قَبْلَ ٱلْحُصُول عَلَى حِذَاءٍ نَظِيفٍ لَمَّاع. فَبِخِفَّةٍ غَرِيبَة، وَعِنَايَة فَائِقَة، تَتَحَرَّكُ ٱلْيَدَان ٱلسَّمْرَاوَان وَهُمَا تُمْسِكَان قِطْعَةَ ٱلْقُمَاش اَلَّتِي تَسْتَبْدِلَانِهَا بَيْنَ ٱلْحِين وَٱلْآخَر بِفُرْشَاةٍ صَغِيرَة تَتَحَرَّك بِٱلطَّرِيقَةِ ذَاتِهَا مِن دُونِ أَنْ يُدَقِّقَ ذٰلِك ٱلشَّابّ اَلْمُنْهَمِك فِي ٱلتَّلْمِيع كَمَا يَنْهَمِك طَالِب ٱلْبَكَالُورِيَا فِي اِمْتِحَانَاتِهِ ٱلْمَصِيرِيَّة فِي وَجْه ٱلزَّبُون قَبْلَ أَنْ يَمُدَّ يَدَهُ لِقَبْض ثَمَن تَلْمِيعِهِ اَلْحِذَاء. وَأَصْبَحَتْ هٰذِهِ ٱلْمِهْنَة اَلَّتِي يَنْظُر إِلَيْهَا كَثِيرُون بِٱزْدِرَاءٍ كَبِير مَلْجَأ كَثِيرِين مِن ٱلشَّبَاب ٱلْعَاطِلِين عَن ٱلْعَمَل وَخُصُوصًا اَلَّذِينَ لَمْ يَتَسَنَّ لَهُم مُتَابَعَةُ دِرَاسَتِهِم فَوَجَدُوا فِيهَا مَلاذًا مِن ٱلْبَطَالَة وَوَسِيلَةً لِتَأْمِين قُوتِهِم ٱلْيَوْمِيّ.


The job/profession of shining shoes doesnt require certificates or special characteristics [lit. elements] on the part of the young men who practice this trade other than agility of hand and taking a little interest in the mood of the customer who will stand at the first shoe-shiner his eyes fall on and wont move from in front of him before getting a pair of clean shiny shoes. With incredible agility and great care the brown hands move as they hold a piece of material which they exchange from time to time for a small brush which moves in the same way without that young man [who is] engrossed in the polishing (just as a baccalaureate student is engrossed in his crucial [lit. life-affecting] examinations) looking closely at the face of the customer before he extends his hand to collect the cost of his polishing the shoes. This profession which many look upon with great contempt has become the refuge of many unemployed young men in particular those who it is not feasible for to pursue their studies. They have found in it a refuge from unemployment and a means for ensuring their daily food.

التسوّل في لبنان... بألف خير!

اَلسِّيَاحَةُ بِأَلْف خَيْرٍ فِي لُبْنَان وَكَذٰلِكَ هِيَ حَال ٱلتَّسَوُّل. لَيْسَ مِن ٱلْمُفْتَرَض أَنْ تَكُونَ هُنَاكَ عَلاقَة عُضْوِيَّة بَيْنَ عَالَمَي اَلْاِنْشِرَاح وَٱلْاِسْتِجْدَاء، لٰكِن فِي شَوَارِع بَيْرُوت، تَرْصُدُ دَوْمًا مَا قَد يُشْعِرُكَ بِأَنَّ جَيْش ٱلْمُتَسَوِّلِين يَنْتَظِر قُدُوم فَصْل ٱلصَّيْف لِرَفْع نَصِيبِهِ مِن ٱلْأَرْبَاح. هِيَ «ٱلشِّلَّةُ» نَفْسُهَا، تَخْتَلِفُ ٱلْوُجُوه أَحْيَانًا، تَخْتَفِي ٱلسَّحَنَاتُ ٱلسُّمْر لِتَحِلَّ مَحَلَّهَا وُجُوهٌ أَكْثَر اِسْوِدَادًا، أَوْ بِيض لَمْ تَلْفَحهَا أَشِعَّةُ ٱلشَّمْس بَعْد. لا يَهُمّ أَنَقَصَ ٱلْعَدَد أَمْ زَاد. «اَلشِّلَّةُ» مُتَمَرِّسَةٌ فِي فُنُون ٱلتَّسَوُّل، عَلَى رَأْسِهَا «زَعِيمٌ» يُوَزِّعُ ٱلْأَدْوَار. وَلا يَبْقَى عَلَى ٱلْأَطْفَال سِوَى ٱلتَّنْفِيذ. تَخْتَرِقُ صُفُوف ٱلسَّيَّارَات ٱلْعَالِقَة فِي عَجْقَةِ ٱلسَّيْر، وَكُلَّمَا تَكَدَّسَتْ ٱلطَّوَابِير، وَجَدَ أَوْلاد ٱلشَّوَارِع اَلطَّرِيق أَسْهَل إِلَى جُيُوب زَبَائِن «ٱلْأَمْر ٱلْوَاقِع».


Tourism is very well in Lebanon and likewise is the state of begging. It shouldn't be supposed that there is an organic relationship between the [two] worlds of relaxation and supplication/begging but in the streets of Beirut you will constantly observe what might make you feel that the army of beggars waits for the arrival of the season of summer to raise their share of profits. It is [always] the same band/clique [though] the faces differ sometimes; The brown looks disappear to be replaced by blacker faces or white [faces] [which] the rays of the sun haven't scorched/burned yet. It is not important whether the number is less or more the band/clique is well-practiced in the arts of begging. At its head is a leader who distributes roles. Nothing remains for the children [to do] except perform. [The group] penetrates the rows of cars held up in a traffic jam [leb.]. Whenever the queues build up the street children find the way is easier into the pockets of the de facto [but unwilling] customers.

عادات فريدة لبدو سيناء في رمضان

رَغْم تَغَيُّر ٱلظُّرُوف وَٱلْأَحْوَال، لا يَزَال بَدْو سِينَاء يَحْتَفِظُون بِعَادَاتٍ وَتَقَالِيد رَمَضَانِيَّة تَوَارَثُوهَا عَن أَسْلافِهِم وَأَجْدَادِهِم مُنْذُ مِئَات ٱلسِّنِين. فَمَا إِنْ يَهِلُّ ٱلشَّهْر ٱلْكَرِيم حَتَّى تُوقَدُ ٱلْمَوَاقِد وَتُفْرَشُ ٱلْمَوَائِد عَلَى طُول لطُّرُق ٱلصَّحْرَاوِيَّة اَلَّتِي تَخْتَرِق سِينَاء لِٱسْتِقْبَال ٱلْغُرَبَاء مِن ٱلْمَارِّين لِتَنَاوُل طَعَام ٱلْإِفْطَار اَلَّذِي تُعِدُّهُ ٱلْقَبَائِل ٱلسِّينَاوِيَّة يَوْمِيًّا لِلْمَارَّةِ طِوَالَ شَهْر رَمَضَان ٱلْمُبَارَك. وَتَكْتَظُّ مَائِدَةُ رَمَضَان اَلْبَدَوِيَّة بِٱللُّحُوم وَٱلْأَرُزّ وَٱلْخُبْز، وَتُخْلُو تَمَامًا مِن لْأَسْمَاك، فِيمَا اُسْتُحْدِثَ تَقْدِيم أَطْبَاق ٱلْحَلْوَيَات ٱلشَّرْقِيَّة مِن ٱلْقَطَايِف وَٱلْكُنَافَة وَعَصَائِر ٱلْفَاكِهَة عَلَى ٱلْمَائِدَة ٱلْبَدَوِيَّة. وَٱلْقَبَائِل بِوَسَط سِينَاء تُقِيمُ خَيْمَة كَبِيرَة دَاخِل كُلّ قَرْيَة وَيَتِمُّ تَجْهِيز ٱلْخَيْمَة بِٱلْمَقَاعِد وَٱلْوَسَائِد لِيَتَنَاوَل فِيهَا ٱلرِّجَال اَلْإِفْطَار، فِيمَا تَجْلِسُ ٱلسَّيِّدَات فِي خِيَامِهِنّ لِتَنَاوُل ٱلْإِفْطَار وَتَبَادُل ٱلْأَطْعِمَة.


Despite the change in circumstances and conditions the Bedouins of Sinai still uphold the Ramadan customs and traditions which were handed down [lit. they inherited] from their forefathers and ancestors over hundreds of years. For no sooner has the generous month begun [lit. the crescent moon shows] than stoves are lit and tables/table-spreads [of food] are laid out [on the ground] all along the desert roads which run through Sinai to receive/welcome passing strangers to have the food of iftar [=first meal after sunset in Ramadan] which the Sinai tribes prepare every day for passers-by throughout the blessed month of Ramadan. The Bedouin Ramadan table is crammed full with meats and rice and bread and totally devoid of fish while the provision of dishes of the Eastern sweet pastries of qatayef [semicircular pancakes in honey] and kunafa [vermicelli in sugar butter and honey] and fruit juices has been introduced [recently] onto the Bedouin table. Tribes in the center of Sinai put up a large tent in every village and the tent is prepared with places to sit [on the ground] and cushions so the men can have iftar in it [the tent] while the ladies sit in their [own] tents to have iftar and exchange food.

تَمَكَّنَ ٱلْمُوَاطِن ٱلْأُرْدُنِّيّ سَنَد اَلْمَغْرِبِيّ مِن اِصْطِيَاد سَمَكَةِ قِرْشٍ فِي ٱلْمِيَاه ٱلْأُرْدُنِّيَّة. وَقَالَ اَلْمَغْرِبِيّ إِنَّهُ أَثْنَاءَ مُمَارَسَتِهِ ٱلصَّيْد قُرْبَ ٱلْمِينَاء ٱلْعَائِم، لاحَظَ حَرَكَةً غَيْر طَبِيعِيَّة فِي ٱلْأَمْوَاج فَظَنَّ أَنَّ سَبَبَهَا وُجُود سَمَكَةٍ كَبِيرَة، مُسْتَبْعِدًا أَنْ تَكُونَ سَمَكَةَ قِرْش كَوْن سَمَكَةِ ٱلْقِرْش لا تُوجَد فِي ٱلْعَقَبَة. وَأَضَافَ اَلْمَغْرِبِيّ: «أَلْقَيْتُ ٱلسِّنَّارَة مَرَّة أُخْرَى فِي ٱلْبَحْر وَإِذَا بِٱلسَّمَكَةِ مِن نَوْع ٱلْقِرْش، وَكَانَ لا بُدَّ مِن مُحَارَبَتِهِ، وَشَدّ ٱلْحَبْل بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَه لِإِتْعَابِه؛ لِأَنَّ وُصُولَهُ إِلَى ٱلْقَارِب بِكَامِل قُوَّتِه يَعْنِي أَنَّنِي وَمَنْ مَعِي فِي خَطَر». وَٱسْتَمَرَّتْ عَمَلِيَّةُ ٱلشَّدّ وَٱلْإِرْخَاء كَمَا يَذْكُرُ اَلْمَغْرِبِيّ أَكْثَر مِن أَرْبَع سَاعَات إِلَى أَنْ تَمَكَّنَ مِن جَذْب ٱلْقِرْش اَلَّذِي بَلَغَ وَزْنُهُ مِئَة وَخَمْسِين كِيلُوغرَامًا إِلَى ٱلْقَارِب بِمُعَاوَنَةِ بَعْض ٱلصَّيَّادِين، بَعْدَ ٱلْقَضَاء عَلَيْه بِوَاسِطَةِ مَعَاوِل حَدِيدِيَّة.


Jordanian citizen Sanad al-Maghriby managed to catch a shark in Jordanian waters. Al-Maghriby said that while he was fishing near the floating port he noticed an unusual movement in the waves and he thought that the reason for it was the presence of a large fish thinking it unlikely to be a shark as sharks are not [usually] found in Aqaba. Al-Maghriby added: I cast the fishhook once more into the sea and suddenly there was a fish of the shark type. There was no choice but to fight it and [to have] a tug of war between myself and it to tire it out because its arriving into the boat with its full strength would mean that I and those with me would be in danger. The operation of pulling tight and [then] slackening [the line] continued as Al-Maghriby mentions for more than four hours until he managed to pull the shark which weighed one hundred and fifty kilograms into the boat with the help of some fishermen after killing it by means of iron pickaxes.

بَدَأَتْ إِسْرَائِيل اِعْتِمَاد أُسْلُوبٍ جَدِيد مِن أَسَالِيب ٱلتَّجَسُّس فِي لُبْنَان، إِذْ أَرْسَلَتْ أَوَّل مِن أَمْس مُنْطَاد تَجَسُّس مِن نَوْع «بُومْبَارْدِير» حَلَّقَ فَوْق مَدِينَةِ بَعْلَبَكّ وَبَلْدَتَي نَحْلَة وَيُونِين وَسِلْسِلَةِ جِبَال لُبْنَان ٱلشَّرْقِيَّة. وَعَدَّدَ ٱلْعَمِيد ٱلْمُتَقَاعِد وَٱلْخَبِير ٱلْاِسْترَاتِيجِيّ أَمِين حَطِيط لـِ«اَلشَّرْق ٱلأَوْسَط»، مِيزَات ٱلْمُنْطَاد قَائِلًا: «اَلْمُنْطَاد بَالُونٌ يُنْفَخ بِغَاز يُمَكِّنُهُ مِن ٱلتَّحْلِيق، وَبِٱلتَّالِي عِنْدَمَا يُطْلَق لا يَكُون فِي حَاجَةٍ لِمُحَرِّكٍ أَوْ وَقُود لِيُسَيِّرَهُ، وَيُمْكِن تَثْبِيتُهُ فِي مِنْطَقَةٍ وَنُقْطَة مُعَيَّنَة وَلِمُدَّةٍ مُحَدَّدَة يُحَرِّكُهُ ٱلْهَوَاء، وَهُوَ مُجَهَّزٌ بِكَامِيرَات وَأَجْهِزَة اِتِّصَال حَدِيثَة تَسْمَح بِتَحْوِيل كُلّ مَا يَتِمّ تَصْوِيرُهُ لِمَرَاكِز ٱلْمُرَاقَبَةِ ٱلْإِسْرَائِيلِيَّة. وَمَا يُمَيِّزُهُ عَن ٱلطَّائِرَات أَنَّهُ يُمْكِن تَثْبِيتُهُ فِي نُقْطَةٍ مُحَدَّدَة، كَمَا أَنَّ تَكْلِفَتَهُ لَوْ أُصِيب أَقَلّ بِكَثِير مِن تَكْلِفَةِ ٱلطَّائِرَة ٱلتَّجَسُّسِيَّة».


Israel has begun using a new method from among the methods of spying in Lebanon as it sent the day before yesterday a spy balloon/blimp of the type Bombardier which hovered above the town of Baalbek and the two villages of Nahla and Younine and the eastern Lebanon mountain range. Retired Brigadier General and strategic expert Amin Hatit enumerated to Asharq Alawsat the characteristics of the balloon/blimp saying: The blimp is a balloon which is inflated with gas which enables it to hover/fly and consequently when it is released/launched it is in no need of a motor or fuel to move it. It can be fixed/fastened to a specific point and area for a determined amount of time and is moved by the wind. It is equipped with cameras and modern communication appliances which allow the transferring of all which is photographed to Israeli observation posts. What distinguishes it from aeroplanes is that is can be fixed/fastened to a specific point and also that its cost should it be hit is much less than the cost of a spy plane.

طَالَبَ عُلَمَاء أَزْهَرِيُّون فِي مِصْر بِإِصْدَار تَشْرِيعٍ فِي قَانُون ٱلْعُقُوبَات لِتَوْقِيف ٱلْمُجَاهِرِين بِٱلْإِفْطَار فِي نَهَار رَمَضَان، وَتَطْبِيق تَجْرِبَةِ بَعْض ٱلدُّوَل ٱلْعَرَبِيَّة اَلَّتِي تُعَاقِب ٱلْمُجَاهِر بِٱلْإِفْطَار فِي رَمَضَان بِٱلسَّجْن وَٱلْغَرَامَة، مُشَدِّدِين عَلَى أَنَّ مَنْ رَخَّصَ ٱلله لَهُ ٱلْإِفْطَار لا يَجِبُ عَلَيْهِ ٱلْمُجَاهَرَة بِٱلْفِطْر أَمَامَ ٱلنَّاس حَتَّى لا يُعْطِي إِشَارَة لِغَيْرِهِ بِٱلْإِفْطَار فِي رَمَضَان حِفَاظًا عَلَى حُرْمَةِ ٱلشَّهْر ٱلْكَرِيم. وَأَكَّدَ ٱلْعُلَمَاء أَنَّ اَلَّذِي يَجْهَر بِٱلْإِفْطَار فِي ٱلشَّوَارِع وَٱلطُّرُقَات وَعَلَى ٱلْمَقَاهِي فِي نَهَار رَمَضَان ذَنْبُهُ مُضَاعَف مِصْدَاقًا لِقَوْل ٱلنَّبِيّ صَلَّى ٱلله عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّم «كُلّ أُمَّتِي مُعَافًى إِلَّا ٱلْمُجَاهِرِين»، كَمَا أَنَّهُ مَنْ أَفْطَرَ يَوْمًا مِن رَمَضَان فِي غَيْر رُخْصَة رَخَّصَهَا ٱلله لَمْ يَقْضِهِ عَنهُ صِيَام ٱلدَّهْر وَإِنْ صَامَه، فِي إِشَارَةٍ إِلَى مَدَى ٱلْجُرْم اَلَّذِي يَرْتَكِبُهُ ٱلْمُفْطِر‏.


Al-Azhar scholars in Egypt have called for the issuing of legislation in the penal code to arrest those who publicly break the fast in the day time of Ramadan and the implementing of the experience of some of the Arab countries which punish the person publicly breaking the fast in Ramadan with imprisonment and fines. [The scholars] emphasised that those who God permitted to break the fast should not openly break the fast in front of people so as not to give an indication to others of fast-breaking in Ramadan and to preserve the sanctity of the generous month. The scholars confirmed that he who openly breaks the fast in the streets and roads and in cafés in the day time of Ramadan - his sin is doubled confirming the utterance of the Prophet peace be upon him: All my people are forgiven except those publicly announcing [their sins]. And he who breaks the fast for one day of Ramadan without permission granted by God - a lifetime of fasting (if he fasts it) will not discharge him [of this debt] in an indication to the extent of the sin/crime which the fast-breaker commits.

قَالَتْ مَصَادِر أَمْنِيَّة إِنَّ أَجْهِزَةَ ٱلْأَمْن بِشَمَال سِينَاء دَاهَمَتْ مِنْطَقَةَ اَلْمُتَمَنِّي اَلْجَبَلِيَّة بِوَسَط سِينَاء اَلتَّابِعَة لِمَدِينَةِ اَلْحَسَنَة وَعَثَرَتْ عَلَى نَحْوِ مِائَةِ قَذِيفَة مُضَادَّة لِلطَّائِرَات دَاخِل مَخْبَأ سِرِّيّ عِبَارَة عَن تَجْوِيفٍ جَبَلِيّ، كَمَا عَثَرَتْ عَلَى تِسْعِين قَذِيفَة أُخْرَى كَامِلَةَ ٱلْأَجْزَاء وَبِحَالَةٍ جَيِّدَة دَاخِل مَخْبَأٍ آخَر بِمِنْطَقَةِ اَلدَّقَّاق بِوَسَط سِينَاء، وَصَادَرَتْ نَحْوَ أَلْف وَخَمْسُمِئَة طَلْقَة كَانَتْ مُخَبَّأَة قُرْبَ مَدِينَة نَخْل بِٱلْقِطَاع ٱلْأَوْسَط مِن سِينَاء. وَتَابَعَتْ ٱلْمَصَادِر أَنَّهُ تَمَّ ضَبْط عَشَرَةِ أَلْغَام مُضَادَّة لِلدَّبَّابَات كَامِلَةَ ٱلْأَجْزَاء، فِي مَخْبَأٍ آخَر بِمِنْطَقَةِ دَوَّار اَلتَّنَك بِمَدِينَةِ رَفَح، مُرَجِّحَة أَنَّ بَعْض تُجَّار ٱلْمُتَفَجِّرَات قَامُوا بِجَمْع وَتَخْزِين ٱلْقَذَائِف تَمْهِيدًا لِٱسْتِخْرَاج ٱلْمَادَّة ٱلْمُتَفَجِّرَة مِنهَا وَتَهْرِيبِهَا إِلَى قِطَاع غَزَّة عَبْرَ ٱلْأَنْفَاق.


Security sources said that the security services in the north of Sinai had raided the mountainous region of al-Mutamanni in the centre of Sinai [a region] pertaining to the town of al-Hasana and discovered around one hundred anti-aircraft missiles/grenades inside a secret hiding place consisting of a mountain hollow. And also they discovered ninety other grenades with all parts and in good condition inside another hiding place in the region of al-Daqqaq in the centre of Sinai and confiscated around one thousand five hundred rounds [of ammunition] which were hidden near the town of Nakhl in the middle sector of Sinai. The sources went on [to say] that ten anti-tank mines with all parts were seized in another hiding place in the area of Dawwar al-Tanak in the town of Rafah and thought it likely that some traders in explosives had carried out the collecting and storing of the grenades in preparation for extracting the explosive substance from them and smuggling it into the Gaza Strip via the tunnels.

وَإِذَا رَأَيْتَهُمْ تُعْجِبُكَ أَجْسَامُهُمْ

اَلْمُنَافِقُون يَهْتَمُّون بِٱلظَّاهِر عَلَى حِسَاب ٱلْبَاطِن، أَجْسَامُهُم ذَاوِيَة، وَقُلُوبُهُم خَاوِيَة، ظَاهِرٌ مُغْرٍ، وَبَاطِنٌ مُخْزٍ، فِي ٱلْعَلَن رِجَال وَفِي ٱلْخَفَاء خَفَافِيش، أَلْسِنَةٌ حَالِيَة وَنُفُوسٌ مَرِيرَة، فَأَوَّل مَا تُشَاهِدُهُ مِنهُم طَلَعَاتٍ بَهِيَّة، وَهَيَاكِل قَوِيَّة، وَعَضَلاتٍ مَفْتُولَة، وَسَوَاعِد مَشْدُودَة، وَلٰكِنَّهُم يَحْمِلُون هَمًّا سَاقِطًا، وَعَزَائِم مُنْحَطَّة وَنِيَّاتٍ خَبِيثَة، وَمُرَادَاتٍ قَبِيحَة، وَمَرَضٌ يَنْخُرُ فِي قُلُوبِهِم، وَشَكٌّ يَعْصِفُ بِنُفُوسِهِم، وَخَوَاءٌ يُعَشْعِش فِي ضَمَائِرِهِم، أَمَّا أَلْسِنَتُهُم فَهِيَ أَسْوَاقٌ لِبِضَاعَةِ ٱلْكَذِب، وَمَتَاحِف لِلزُّور وَٱلْبُهْتَان، وَأَمَّا قُلُوبُهُم فَأَطْلالٌ بَالِيَة أَقَامَ بِهَا ٱلنِّفَاق، وَحَلَّ بِهَا ٱلْكُفْر، وَمَلَأَهَا ٱلرِّجْس. إِنَّ ٱلْمَسْأَلَة لَيْسَتْ بِٱلصُّوَر وَٱلْهِنْدَام وَجَمَال ٱلْأَشْكَال وَبَهَاء ٱلْهَيَاكِل، وَلٰكِنَّ ٱلْمَسْأَلَة مَسْأَلَةُ قُلُوبٍ تَبْصُرُ ٱلنُّور، وَنُفُوسٌ تَفِيضُ بِٱلْخَيْر، وَسَجَايَا تَشِعُّ بِٱلْفَضِيلَة.


The hypocrites are interested in the exterior at the expense of the interior. [But] their bodies are [surely] fading/withering and their hearts are empty. An alluring exterior [now] but a shameful interior. In public men but in secret bats. Sugared tongues but bitter souls. The first thing you see of them is splendid appearances strong bodies [lit. frames] brawny muscles and taut forearms. But they carry a base plan and low resolutions and evil intentions and ugly designs. An illness eats away in their hearts and doubt blows violently in their souls and emptiness nests in their consciences. Their tongues are markets for the goods of deceit and museums for falsehood and untruth. Their hearts are decrepit ruins [which] hypocrisy dwells in and unbelief resides in and [shameful] filth fills. The matter is not about images and smart clothes and beauty of forms and magnificence of bodies/frames. But the matter is a matter of hearts which see the light and souls which overflow with goodness and natures which beam with virtue.

It is right for the Lebanese director De Gaulle Eid to be angry It is right for him to fume with rage and indignation over the barring of his film What Happened? which talks about nothing more than the search with a camera for those who snatched away the life of his mother and father and little sister when he was still a child of ten with rounds of gunfire [which were] nervous reckless and odious/hateful during a foolish war which brought nothing but blood. The massacre which reaped [the lives of] thirteen people among whom were his family during the Lebanese Civil War [1975-1990] must be still engraved in his memory; Migration has not erased it nor has distance from the place of the crime. Lebanese General Security blocked the film which points fingers of accusation at the Syrian Social Nationalist Party and it mentions in another incident the Phalange Party. It shows/portrays a person the director met in his village who says that he was one of the participants in the massacre and that he was the killer of his mother.

The resort of Qasr al-Sarab [lit. Mirage Palace] which has five stars lies in the region of Liwa in the desert of the Empty Quarter which is famous for the highest and most beautiful sand dunes in the world. اِلْتَهَمَتْ أَلْسِنَةُ ٱلْلَهَب ثَلاثِين أَلْف دَجَاجَة فِي إِحْدَى ٱلْمَزَارِع بِمُحَافَظَةِ اَلشَّرْقِيَّة ٱلْمِصْرِيَّة، وَلَمْ يَنْفَع صِيَاحُهَا فِي تَنْبِيه أَهَالِي ٱلْقَرْيَة لِإِنْقَاذِهَا فِي ٱلْوَقْت ٱلْمُنَاسِب مِن ٱلنِّيرَان اَلَّتِي شَبَّتْ فِي عَنَابِر ٱلْمَزْرَعَة. وَبَعْدَمَا تَنَبَّهَ ٱلْأَهَالِي وَهَرَعُوا إِلَى ٱلْمَزْرَعَة بِصُحْبَةِ قُوَّاتِ ٱلْحِمَايَة ٱلْمَدَنِيَّة لَمْ يَجِدُوا فِيهَا إِلَّا بَقَايَا دَجَاج مُتَفَحِّم. وَقَالَ هَادِي عَبْد اَلْعَظِيم، رَئِيس ٱلْجَمْعِيَّة ٱلْمِصْرِيَّة لِلثَّرْوَة ٱلْحَيَوَانِيَّة بِٱلشَّرْقِيَّة، إِنَّ ٱلْمَزْرَعَة مَبْنِيَّةٌ بِطَرِيقَةٍ عَشْوَائِيَّة عَلَى مِسَاحَةِ ثَلاثَة قَرَارِيط وَمُشَيَّدَة بِٱلطُّوب ٱلْأَحْمَر وَمَسْقُوفَة بِٱلْأَخْشَاب، وَإِنَّ ٱلنِّيرَان عِنْدَمَا اِنْدَلَعَتْ فِي أَحَد عَنَابِر ٱلْإِنْتَاج نَتِيجَةَ اِنْفِجَار أُنْبُوبَةِ غَاز، اِمْتَدَّتْ بِسُرْعَة إِلَى بَقِيَّةِ ٱلْعَنَابِر، وَنَتَجَ عَن ذٰلِك نُفُوق نَحْوَ ثَلاثِين أَلْف دَجَاجَة، وَلٰكِن مِن دُون وُقُوع خَسَائِر بَشَرِيَّة فِي ٱلْأَرْوَاح.


The tongues of flame have devoured thirty thousand chickens in one of the farms in the Egyptian governorate of el-Sharqiya. Their cries were of no avail in alerting the people of the village to save them in time from the fire which broke out in the [chicken] sheds of the farm. After the people realised and rushed to the farm in the company of the civil protection forces [=fire brigade] they didnt find in it [anything] other than charred chicken remains. Hadi Abdel Azim President of the Egyptian Organisation for Animal Wealth in el-Sharqiya said: that the farm was built in an unplanned manner over an area of three kirats [1 kirat = 1/24 feddan i.e. approx. 175m²] and constructed of red [i.e. baked] brick and roofed with pieces of wood and that the fire when it broke out in one of the production sheds as a result of the explosion of a gas cylinder spread quickly to the rest of the sheds. There resulted from this the perishing of around thirty thousand chickens but without the occurrence of human loss of life.

تُوُفِّيَ ٱلْمُفَكِّر ٱلْجَزَائِرِيّ اَلْمُثِير لِلْجَدَل مُحَمَّد أَرْكُون، فِي بَارِيس، مَسَاء أَوَّل مِن أَمْس، وَفِي قَلْبِهِ حَسْرَتَان. فَقَد كَانَ دَائِم ٱلشَّكْوَى بِأَنَّهُ لا يُقْرَأ بِمَا يَكْفِي مِن ٱلْعَرَب أَوْ يُنْصَف مِن قِبَلِهِم، كَمَا بَقِيَ يَشْعُر بِٱلْغَضَاضَة لِأَنَّ أَفْكَارَهُ لَمْ يُحْتَفَ بِهَا فِي فَرَنْسَا اَلَّتِي أَقَامَ فِيهَا مُنْذُ كَانَ طَالِبًا جَامِعِيًّا، وَلَمْ يُصْغَ إِلَيهَا بِٱلْقَدْر اَلَّذِي كَانَ يَتَمَنَّاه. وَبِسَبَب كَوْنِهِ مُتَخَصِّصًا مَعْرُوفًا فِي ٱلْفِكْر ٱلْإِسْلامِيّ، فَقَد حَاوَلَ أَنْ تُسْمَعَ كَلِمَتُهُ بَعْدَ أَحْدَاث ٱلْحَادِي عَشَر مِن سِبْتَمْبِر (أَيْلُول) شَارِحًا مَكَامِن ٱلْخَطَأ عِنْد ٱلْعَرَب وَفِي ٱلسُّلُوك ٱلْغَرْبِيّ ٱلْمُهَيْمِن، مُحَاوِلًا تَوْصِيف ٱلدَّوَاء، لٰكِنَّ آرَاءَهُ بَقِيَتْ حَبِيسَةَ ٱلْأَرْوِقَةِ ٱلْأَكَادِيمِيَّة وَٱلْحَلَقَات ٱلنُّخْبَوِيَّة، وَإِنْ عُيِّنَ فِي بَعْض ٱللِّجَان اَلَّتِي كَانَ غَرَضُهَا ٱلنَّظَر فِي شُؤُون ٱلْمُسْلِمِين.


The controversial Algerian thinker Mohammed Arkoun died in Paris in the evening of the day before yesterday and in his heart were two sorrows; He was always complaining that he was not read enough by Arabs or treated fairly by them. Just as he continued to feel offended that his ideas were not warmly received in France which he had lived in since he was a university student and were not listened to to the extent which he had hoped. And because of his being a well known specialist in Islamic thought he had tried to have his words listened to after the events of the eleventh of September (Ayloul) explaining the points [lit. hiding places] of error among Arabs and in the Wests dominating behavior and trying to prescribe the medicine. But his ideas remained confined to academic corridors and elitist circles even if he was appointed to some committees whose aim was to look into the affairs of Muslims.

إِذَا كَانَتْ نَفْسُكَ تَشْتَهِي كَأْس شَايٍ مُنَعْنَع مَعَ ٱللَّوز، أَوْ خُبْز شَعِير بِزَيْت ٱلْأَرْكَان، اَلْوِجْهَةُ حَتْمًا سَتَكُون مَدِينَة تَافْرَاُوت اَلْمَغْرِبِيَّة. إِذَا كُنتَ تَبْحَث عَن ٱلطَّبِيعَةِ وَٱلْهُدُوء ٱلتَّامّ فَإِنَّ قُرَى تَافْرَاُوت كَفِيلَةٌ بِتَوْفِير ذٰلِك. تَقَع تَافْرَاُوت عَلَى أَطْرَاف جِبَال ٱلْأَطْلَس ٱلصَّغِير، عَلَى بُعْد مِئَةٍ وَسَبْعِين كِيلُومِتْرًا جَنُوب مَدِينَةِ أَكَادِير. وَيَعِيش فِيهَا عَدَدٌ مِن ٱلْقَبَائِل ٱلْأَمَازِيغِيَّة (اَلْبَرْبَرِيَّة). يَقُول ٱلْبَاحِثُون فِي ٱلتَّارِيخ إِنَّ تَافْرَاُوت وُجِدَتْ قَبْل ٱلتَّارِيخ وَمَا زَالَتْ إِلَى ٱلآن آثَار ٱلْإِنْسَان ٱلْبَدَائِيّ فِي مِنْطَقَة تَازَكَّا اَلْمَعْرُوفَة بِنُحُوتٍ صَخْرِيَّة أَشْهَرُهَا رَسْم ٱلْغَزَالَة. وَكَانَتْ آخِر مَدِينَة يَدْخُلُهَا ٱلْفَرَنْسِيُّون عَام أَلْف وَتِسْعُمِئَة وَأَرْبَعَة وَثَلاثِين لِسَبَبَيْن، أَوَّلُهُمَا مُقَاوَمَةُ سُكَّانِهَا، ثُمَّ صُعُوبَةُ مَسَالِكِهَا وَوُعُورَةُ ٱلْجِبَال اَلْمُحِيطَةِ بِهَا.

If you are searching for nature and complete calm then the villages [surrounding] Tafraout are guaranteed to provide that. Tafraout lies on the edge of the Anti-Atlas mountains at a distance of one hundred and seventy kilometres south of the city of Agadir. A number of Amazigh (Berber) tribes live in it. History researchers say that Tafraout existed in prehistoric times and there are still until now traces of primitive man in the region of Tasekka [which is] known for rock carvings the most famous of which is a drawing of a gazelle. It was the last town the French entered in the year nineteen hundred and thirty four for two reasons; The first is the resistance of its inhabitants and then the difficulty of its paths/roads and the ruggedness of the surrounding mountains.

After weeks of heated/angry debate in the Kuwaiti street the Kuwaiti government decided yesterday to withdraw the nationality of the Shiite activist Yasser al-Habib and called for Interpol to bring him in after a circular [was issued] against him in the Arab world and internationally. This was against the background of his attempt to spread discord and disharmony among the people of Kuwaiti society. And with the decision of the Kuwaiti government to abrogate Habibs nationality it has acceded to the demands of the Sunni street in Kuwait which the abrogation of nationality was the main demand of against the background of statements Habib gave in London which were considered derogatory/hurtful to Lady Aisha Bint Abu Bakr wife of The Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him. The Kuwait government the day before yesterday issued a resolution banning public gatherings in a step towards putting an end to sectarian tension between Shiites and Sunnis following the statements of Habib who has been residing in London since two thousand and four.

حِينَمَا كُنَّا طُلَّابًا فِي ٱلْمَرْحَلَةِ ٱلثَّانَوِيَّة نَدْرُسُ ٱلْأَدَب ٱلْجَاهِلِيّ، كَانَتْ تَسْتَوْقِفُنَا حِكَايَات سُوق عُكَاظ، وَٱلْأَحْدَاث اَلَّتِي تَدُورُ فِيه، وَكَيْف كَانَتْ تُضْرَب لِلنَّابِغَة اَلذُّبْيَانِيّ قُبَّةٌ حَمْرَاء مِن أُدُم، تَمْيِيزًا لَهُ وَتَقْدِيرًا لِمَكَانَتِه، وَكَيْف كَان زُهَير بِن أَبِي سُلْمَى، وَٱلْخَنْسَاء، وَقُسّ بِن سَاعِدَةِ اَلْأَيَادِيّ مِن نُجُوم ٱلسُّوق وَمَشَاهِيرِه، وَلَمْ يَكُن فِي ذِهْن أَحَدٍ مِنَّا أَنَّ هٰذَا ٱلسُّوق سَوْفَ يُصْبِح ذَات يَوْم حَقِيقَةً فِي حَيَاتِنَا ٱلْمُعَاصِرَة، نَسْتَلْهِمُ أَجْوَاءَه، وَنَسْتَحْضِرُ سِيَاقَاتِه. ذٰلِك مَا تَدَاعَى إِلَى ٱلذَّاكِرَة، وَأَنَا أَقْضِي أَيَّامًا فِي سُوق عُكَاظ، اَلَّذِي أَعَادَهُ إِلَى ٱلْوُجُود اَلْأَمِير خَالِد اَلْفَيْصَل، أَمِير مِنْطَقَة مَكَّة ٱلْمُكَرَّمَة، لِيَغْدُو مَهْرَجَانًا سَنَوِيًّا، يَسْتَقْطِبُ ٱلْأُدَبَاء وَٱلْفَنَّانِين وَٱلْحِرَفِيِّين ٱلسُّعُودِيِّين وَٱلْعَرَب، فِي تَظَاهُرَةٍ ثَقَافِيَّة تُضِيفُ ٱلْكَثِير إِلَى رَصِيد ٱلسُّعُودِيَّة مِن ٱلْمَهْرَجَانَات وَٱلْمُؤْتَمَرَات وَٱللِّقَاءَات ٱلثَّقَافِيَّة.


When we were students in the secondary level studying Jahiliy [i.e. pre-Islamic] literature we were captivated [lit. stopped] by the stories of Souq Ukaz [=a market held near Mecca and famed for its poetry contests] and the events which went on in it and how there would be pitched for al-Nabigha al-Dhubyani [poet d. circa 604 AD] a red dome of tanned hides/skins conferring honour/distinction on him and in estimation of his [high] standing and how Zuhair ibn Abi Sulma [poet d. circa 627 AD] al-Khansa [poetess d. circa 645 AD] and Quss ibn Saida al-Ayadi [poet d. circa 600 AD] were among the stars of the market and its famous personalities. And it wasnt in the mind of one of us that this market would become one day a reality in our contemporary life for us to receive the inspiration of its [original] atmosphere and to bring to mind its [original] ways [lit. contexts]. That is what was called to mind when I spent [some] days in Souq Ukaz which Prince Khalid Al-Faisal Emir of the region of Mecca al-Mukarrama [lit. the honoured epithet of Mecca] brought back into existence for it to become an annual festival which attracts Saudi and Arab writers artists and craftsmen in a cultural demonstration which adds much to Saudis stock of cultural festivals congresses and gatherings.

رجل خارق القوة يثير الذعر وسط القاهرة

تَسَبَّبَ رَجُلٌ أَرْبَعِينِيّ يَمْتَلِك قُدْرَاتٍ جَسَدِيَّة خَاصَّة فِي إِثَارَةِ ٱلذُّعْر وَسْطَ ٱلْعَاصِمَةِ ٱلْمِصْرِيَّة اَلْقَاهِرَة، بَعْد إِعْلانِهِ اِعْتِزَامِهِ تَقْيِيد أَطْرَافِهِ بِٱلْقُيُود ٱلْحَدِيدِيَّة ثُمَّ ٱلْقَفْز فِي ٱلنِّيل، وَٱلْعَوْدَة سَالِمًا بَعْد دَقَائِق. إِلَّا أَنَّ تَكْرَار حَوَادِث ٱلْاِنْتِحَار عَلَى «كُوبْرِي قَصْر ٱلنِّيل» اَلشَّهِير، بِوَسَط ٱلْقَاهِرَة، أَدَّى إِلَى أَنْ تَقْتَادَهُ ٱلشُّرْطَة إِلَى ٱلتَّحْقِيق. اَلرَّجُل، وَٱسْمُهُ عَبْد اَلْكَرِيم عُبَيْد حَسَنَيْن، كَانَ أَعْلَن اِعْتِزَامَه اَلْقَفْز مِن أَعْلَى كُوبْرِي قَصْر ٱلنِّيل أَوَّل مِن أَمْس فِي تَمَام ٱلثَّالِثَة ظُهْرًا، بَعْد تَقْيِيد نَفْسِهِ بِٱلسَّلاسِل، مُسَمِّيًا قَفْزَتَهُ بـِ«قَفْزَةِ ٱلسَّلام»، مُعْلِنًا أَنَّهَا تَعْبِيرٌ عَن دَعْمِهِ لِلرَّئِيس حُسْنِيّ مُبَارَك وَسِيَاسَاتِه. وَمَنْ يَعْرِفُون عُبَيْد يَقُولُون إِنَّهُ يَتَمَتَّعُ حَقًّا بِقُوَّةٍ جَسَدِيَّة اِسْتِثْنَائِيَّة تُمَكِّنُهُ مِن جَرّ ثَمَانِي سَيَّارَات، وَٱلْتِهَام كَمِّيَّاتٍ كَبِيرَة مِن ٱلزُّجَاج، إِضَافَةً إِلَى ثَنْي ٱلْمَعَادِن ٱلصُّلْبَة وَفَكّ أَعْقَد ٱلْقُيُود.


A man in his forties possessing special physical powers was the cause behind the stirring up of alarm in the centre of the Egyptian capital Cairo after he announced his intention/determination to tie up his limbs with iron shackles/bonds and then to jump into the Nile and to return safely after [a few] minutes. However the repetition of the events of the famous suicide on Qasr el-Nil Bridge in the centre of Cairo [see our earlier article] led to the police taking him away for questioning. The man whose name is Abdel Karim Obeid Hasanein had announced his determination to jump from the top of Qasr el-Nil Bridge the day before yesterday at exactly three in the afternoon after tying himself up with [iron] chains naming his jump The Peace Jump and announcing that it was an expression of his support for President Hosni Mubarak and his policies. Those who know Obeid say that he truly does have [lit. enjoy] exceptional physical strength which enables him to pull eight cars and devour large quantities of glass in addition to bending solid metal and undoing/untying the most complicated/difficult [lit. knotted] of bonds/shackles.
